I am impressed to see a lot of people on here actually believe that homosexuality is something a person is born with rather than a choice. So many of the religious zealots believe a homosexual choices to be "an abomination in the eyes of God," but let's actually ask ourselves: What person would choose this lifestyle? What person wants to be socially stigmatized on a daily basis and told what they feel is right is actually wrong? I don't think anyone would intentionally choose a life as a gay or lesbian because it seems that everyone wants to be accepted by others in some way. I live in the Southern United States, and I know that not everywhere is so narrow-minded as where I live, but I just don't understand why anyone would choose that lifestyle to be hated and ridiculed.

I've had a few homosexual friends who have also wished that they couldn't be homosexual. To me, that definitely shows that you can't choose it anymore than you can choose eye color or skin color. I imagine it is painful seeing your friends go off living a cookie-cutter life (wife/husband, house, children, et cetera), and realizing that you will never have that completely. The argument being that you could adopt a child, but how do you think that feels realizing your DNA, your lineage will not be passed on?

Which leads me into another point: Homosexuality and Suicide. I find suicide a naturally fascinating topic because it basically shows a person at their breaking point. What caused this ordinary, seemingly happy person to just end everything? There is a high correlation between suicide and homosexuality in males. I remember magazine after magazine a few months back dealing with articles on homosexuality and suicide among males ages 18-24. This is apparently the bracket with the highest suicide rate. It seems to be the time in their lives when it clicks "I'm gay..." and some just don't know how to handle that. They realize things will never be normal, and that they are not the image their parents want (Or so they think).

I just wish society would learn to not be so ignorant to something that cannot be changed. It is not a "sin" and it is not unnatural. I remember reading an article that a college sophomore jumped off a bridge because his roommate had a hidden camera in the room while the boy was making out with another boy. He then proceeded to post on Facebook about how gay his roommate was and offered friends to come watch. Unnatural cruelty.

I think the simple phrase "treat others as you want to be treated" regardless of their race, creed, nationally, sexual orientation, et cetera should be applied to here. You treat someone how you would want to be treated. End of story.

Yes, I see some women can be attractive, I have no desires to go courting. The number of women I've actually been interested in could be counted on less than half a hand, and they turned out to be only interested in women. I have no sexual interests in men either. Its more than likely you are born with your tendancies, especially as nature likes to try random stuff out and see what fits. The more humans there are, the more of the non-standard base template appears, and there's nothing wrong with it. If you're happy and not hurting anyone, then why is it a problem?

I think I most identify as an asexual too; I've never really been interested in either sex on a normal basis. There was a girl in college that I really lost my mind over, but I never truly understood if that was love/attraction or if I just really had a lot of fun with her and wanted her to be in my life more.

I see love as fluid; you take it as it comes. And sometimes it doesn't come in the package you expect it to. Just keep an open mind.

Al, I cannot thank you enough for mentioning religion. You've done most of my job for me. It's inevitable now, someone will turn up with a conflicting opinion and derail the whole topic, which will result in a lock. I've never shown any interest towards other men, and have always found only women attractive. Like many other people have said already, I have no problem with someone if they're gay however. You are who you are. I can't really say I have any gay close friends though, but I'm sure if any of them were, nothing would change between us.

As for the whole "choice vs born with it" matter. I believe it to be somewhat both. I believe that yes, most people are born gay, but others it may just end up being a preferable choice later in life. I know someone who was actually straight growing up, but are now gay. I guess you could call her bi, but apparently men just weren't working for her, and she decided to go the other route. It was apparently the best choice for her too, since as far as I know, she now has a girlfriend and is happy.

Though I believe that sexuality doesn't really have any borders. I believe you fall in love with a person, not a sex. I could see myself maybe falling in love with a woman, but I prefer men both mentally, emotionally, and physically.

I also believe homosexuality is perfectly natural.

Liking men has always felt natural and, like Gradon, I've also felt this way since I was very young. So I'm inclined to go for it being nature as opposed to nurture. Can't say for sure though, I'm no scientist.

I am a scientist. And I'm not going to comment because I don't know enough about that area of research.

I'm straight. To the point that I'd struggle to define what a good looking guy even is. I usually do it by judging the reaction of females. My flatmate and I were watching tv and the Jonas brothers were on. She explained to me there's a cute one, an ugly one, and one you're meant to think is cute but isn't. Looked like 3 young men to me...

If you're gay and happy, I'm happy for you. Two consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want with each other. And I think that's a pretty fair line to draw. No children, underage brides, unconsenting adults or animals.
