Softimage was used to create the backgrounds for the PSX-era Resident Evil games, but I'm pretty sure Maya was used to develop REmake and Zero.Originally posted by SonicBlue View Post
The resolution of your monitor is not directly correlated to the output resolution of your render.
If they used Softimage|3D as they modeling tool, the only resolutions available to run the application are 1024x768, 1280x1024 or 1600x1200, so an aspect ratio of 1.333 (4:3).
3D models are vector graphics, therefore they can be rendered at any resolution at the push of a button. Re-rendering REmake or Zero in widescreen 1080p would be as simple as changing the resolution in the rendering output from "512*448" to "1920x1080". The only real work needed would be making sure the expanded field of view doesn't ruin anything.Originally posted by Code_R View PostI do wonder what state the original backgrounds are in - are they bigger than the image format in the existing games? It's hard to say how much work would be involved putting them into modern TV formats for HD and widescreen. The port of RE3 to PC was considered very high resolution at the time!
I too am curious what a modern day, high budget game with pre-rendered backgrounds would look like. CGI technology has pretty much reached photorealism (for environments anyway).Originally posted by please_REboot View PostWhy would you guys want them to reuse the existing last-gen backgrounds, characters etc. and just render them at a higher resolution (1080p or beyond)?
It would probably be much better if they would make entirely new assets utilizing all the performance of current-gen or next-gen hardware instead of just reusing last-gen assets, don't you think?
Just compare the visuals shown in the following video for example:
with the visuals shown in the following video for example:
Although "Resident Evil Remake" is running on NGC (last-gen) and "Resident Evil 5: Lost In Nightmares" is running on PS3/Xbox 360 (current-gen), "Resident Evil Remake" does somehow look better than "Resident Evil 5: Lost In Nightmares", doesn't it?
Now imagine how amazing a game with pre-rendered backgrounds, like "Resident Evil Remake" for example, would probably look if it would be made with assets which would fully utilize current-gen hardware (PS3/Xbox 360 for example) or even next-gen hardware (like PS4/Xbox 720 for example, or whatever they are going to be called)
.
Getting "Resident Evil Zero" and "Resident Evil Remake" with existing last-gen assets rendered at higher resolution would probably be somewhat nice, but it would probably be much nicer if they would instead develop new assets to squeeze out every last bit of performance of current-gen or next-gen hardware, wouldn't it
?
But, ultimately, wouldn't it actually be much better if they would use all their workforce to develop a entirely new "Resident Evil 7" (or whatever you wanna call it) for current-gen or next-gen hardware with classic gameplay and pre-rendered backgrounds instead of remaking older games
?
Imagine a Resident Evil game with environments like the ones in this video:
Everything in the video was computer generated!Last edited by Darkangel; 10-13-2012, 11:41 PM.

Apparently Nintendo's upcoming Wii U game console isn't powered by a Power 7 processor after all, as was previously believed to be the case. IBM took to Twitter to clarify that fact, while offering a somewhat vague clue as to what hardware the Wii U will be running. 'Wii U chip clarification: It's a 'Power-based microprocessor,'' @IBMWatson...
u can find the tweet easily too.

The same way you scroll this page is the same way they scroll the render they are working on. Like he said monitor resolution has little affect on an actual size of the image being worked on. For a CG artist it's just a convenience to have a large monitor but if he needs to he can zoom in/zoom out to work on little details or to get a look at an overall composition. Kinda like an artist paints on canvas - step away/step closer.Originally posted by yurieu View Posthm you mean the outputted project? i wonder how that image can be at 3000x3000...

reboot dude, your idea is logical, but we are talking about a remake of the remake? eheh
i really believe they can create almost real life with the newest engines using pre rendered. but thats for a new game.
for remake, zero, even 2 and 3, it would be easy re encode the master render instead recreate the game from scratch.

It would be pretty bad. You'd lose the carefully crafted camera angles, and the gameplay would become unbalanced.Originally posted by Enigmatism415 View PostWow. wow. simply wow. :O. never saw that video.Originally posted by Darkangel View PostIs this the video?
I'm pretty sure Capcom still has the 3D master files for the REmake/0 backgrounds because they used downscaled versions for the environments in Umbrella Chronicles.
and the foolz say "oh, u want static? go play LIN!". foolz.
Remake and Zero are 3d like any other 3d aplication.

Is this the video?Originally posted by Rombie View PostWhen Capcom was hyping up the remake in 2001 they released a tech video showing a fly through render of the mansion environment in full 3d. So I figure from that standpoint provided all of the assets were kept it would be quite possible to go back and get higher res images and in widescreen.
