Meh, not necessarily. It depends on when his family immigrated from Italy, it was common practice for whole families to change their names upon reaching America. Five times out of ten they would change it to a name that sounded "American" so they could have a head start in the new world.Originally posted by Black~Crow View PostHow can Leon be a descendant of Italian immigrants. Besides, maybe his mothers Maiden name was Esposito or something. My wife has both Native American and Irish blood, and her maiden name was German in origin. Names aren't an especially good way to work out someone's family history nowadays.

I disagree. I don't know anyone that has the last name Kennedy, famous or not, that does not have any Irish in them. Unless they changed their name for some reason. But I think it shows how the person that wrote Leon's background didn't do a lot of research with Italian last names. Leon is an Italian name, short for Leonardo.Originally posted by Darkmoon View PostBesides, maybe his mothers Maiden name was Esposito or something. Well, Japanese media is of course the masters of "clever" names with not-so-subtle meanings/origins. Here's my cast of Japanese characters;Originally posted by Darkmoon View PostNames aren't an especially good way to work out someone's family history nowadays.
Main character:
"Stephen Patriot"
Love interest:
"Lucy Love"
Love interest 2:
"Johanna Darling"
Token obese black comedy sidekick:
"BigMac Chicago"
Evil Russian with random Scottish accent:
"Evil McRussian",
Agree. Kennedy doesn't exactly lend much credibility to an Italian background, but Leon's totally a shot in the right direction.Originally posted by Black~Crow View PostI disagree. Yeahhh! I can see it now: 'You 'effin coca-roches think you can take me!?! I'm Annette Mon'toya, you'll need an army to take me! *BLAM* *BLAM* *BLAM* c'mon! c'mon!!'Originally posted by Akimbo View PostIt would be hilarious if Annette decided to go Rambo on the U.S.S. Soldiers, grabs and MP5 and some Umbrella Body Armour, and just rushes through the labs, and in the same way Tony Montana did at the end of Scarface, just rampages through them, haha.Last edited by Deus Flux; 02-04-2013, 04:00 AM.sigpic

That is not the point. I thought Leon Kennedy was Irish, or half etc. Kennedy is an Irish name. When I read he is a descendant of Italian immigrants, I found it odd that he doesn't have an Italian last name. He should have been named Leon D'angelo or something similar. Video game characters history are not that deep, where they have a family tree. Usually, they have a short and simple history of their background. For a game character, the Capcom employee should have done their homework and researched correct last name to match the characters nationality.Originally posted by geluda View PostBoth the Italians and Irish emigrated to America around the same time period between the mid 1800 and 1900, it's entirely possible his family goes at least that far back, more than enough time for someone Irish to bring their name into the family tree.
As for Carnivol's hair joke, I don't get? If you look at the famous kennedy's in America, Most of the men had thick healthy looking hair. Stereotypes are usually not accurate. Each person should be judge individually rather than as a group.Last edited by Black~Crow; 02-04-2013, 05:46 PM.I have received 135,000 infractions at The Horror Is Alive!
