Recently Universal Orlando revealed a brand new, RE2-themed haunted maze as part of its annual Halloween Horror Nights. At the time, we didn’t have any actual images of the area – today, we’ve got three, including that lovely pic of a besieged RPD!

Wasn't there already a thread about this?

And as I posted, I don't expect much although I already have my ticket to Universal Horror Nights. I live in Florida so Universal is relatively nearby.

It was about what I expected. I go through and see Leon shooting at a zombie. I thought to myself "heh, must be the loading screen" and I also saw a cerberus zombie dog, an animatronic of a licker bursting through a [window? painting?], a hunter, a super tyrant, and of course Nemesis on a rooftop shooting down with a chaingun. Yes, it sounds cool and maybe it would've been nice to have one of these props in your living room if you're a hardcore fan but the grand majority of people weren't impressed and I'll tell you why. Culture shock. Imagine one of those weird-as-nuts Japanese commercials where you have a man with bananas sticking out of his ears and the next second it cuts to a bunch of guys running like idiots and after that you see bananas coming out of the banana guys nose. Refer to the image below.

People were expecting to wait 45min for a haunted house that attempted to scare them and their friends. Instead what they got was a showcase of cool animatronics that only a fan would recognize with minimal effort on actually providing scares. On top of that the house was replacing Silent Hill from last year so it was short, which people also complained about. It would have been possible to please both parties but alas they didn't even try. If you're a fan of Resident Evil, you will love it. If you're not, it will suck.

Sounds fairly lackluster then, I suppose. I love Terminator 2 but I couldn't get over how cheesy the 3D show was when I was there last year. It's most likely designed for younger fans, but the older ones are most likely going to be the only ones who care about RE2 in the first place.

It's nice that they did this at all though, and I'm surprised that it was RE2/RE3 that they chose as the basis.

                Fun fact
Around the main entrance to Universal Studios they played The Suspended Doll from RE: Darkside Chronicles. I was confused at first because I thought it was a remix of the original song from Code Veronica which I am most familiar with. I recognize the song but why does it sound different? Then I checked Youtube and compared with the DSC remake of The Suspended Doll. This version and the one at Universal sounded exactly alike.

                Regarding the park's theme
The park's overall theme featured zombies from The Walking Dead so each and every area was zombies. The best moment I can remember is being in an area designated "The Fall of Atlanta". Some guy was taking pictures of a body on top of sandbags. A zombie came up right beside him and slammed it's hand down on the sandbags, making a loud noise and caught the guy off-guard. That was entertaining. They always wait for you to be distracted or pre-occupied before they make their move so that you don't see it coming. However, good moments like this became increasingly rare and all you started to see was zombies walking around as mindless as the hordes of visitors walking aimlessly. It was boring and I was seeing nothing exciting and new. But just tonight I saw something to break the cycle. Two things. Thing one and thing two.

                Thing one and thing two
The first was this long-bearded man driving a shipping truck. You'd think he looks like god. The truck was being escorted by numerous soldiers with guns bossing everyone around. Then something happened - the truck stopped, and you start hearing this loud banging sound. You don't know what's going on but your attention is focused on this truck. Suddenly a bunch of zombies start pouring out the back of the truck and make their way into the crowd, scaring numbers of people away in one direction and numbers of people in another. The soldiers go about trying to round them up and get them back in the truck. One of the soldiers is carrying around a zombie head and he goes after the most distracted people and hangs the head down in front of their face as if it were a spider descending from a web. There's not a person that didn't freak out. One random girl kept grabbing onto me and wouldn't let go; she was terrified. I sat there with my mouth open in joy out of the awesomeness of the whole situation.

                I looked something like this

The second was an area; a tight area might I add with something other than zombies for a change. Could you guess? CHAINSAWS!! Yes, but chainsaws isn't evil enough. Like I said, the area was a tight path so everyone walking by would get jumped by one of these guys. Some were in plain sight and rushed at you even if you already spotted them. Others hid behind garbage barrels or walls that you didn't know were there and get you as you walked by. Nobody was safe.

Tonight raised my standard to what the Universal Horror Nights street experiences SHOULD be like.

Isn't it funny that a whole maze can be more scary than RE4/5/6 and Rev combined?

Except that it wasn't scary. And as for your mention of RE4, I'd be a little careful on that bias. Believe it or not but the games do deserve respect. I'm not going to lie when I say that I had a blast playing both RE4 and RE5 when they first came out. It's only after I saw what the community was saying about these games did I abandon them and realize that the series was changing. However, they were still fun to play and that is proof that they were not bad games. And besides, whose to say that Resident Evil as a survival horror was ever scary in the first place? One's bias can easily lead to a heated argument as both parties try to convince each other that their game was better. Try to be neutral and respect both sides and you will never lose.

Well that was rather short. Id be pretty ticked If I was an RE fan and I flew out to the maze just to find out it was puny.

That was a problem with Silent Hill as well. It doesn't help that Resident Evil was built right over the puny Silent Hill house from 2012.
