Jill: Hey wait I need to ask you something!
Carlos: I know, you want to ask me out. All the foxy ladies love my accent!
    Jill: What!? Keep on dreaming!

I so love this part in RE3

I would probably say that they could get together. They're both hard-asses, and they probably didn't respond well to each other because they were surrounded by zombies and things that could decapitate in one swipe.

Also, you mention a cruise ship... that's a sort of, well, romantic thing to do usually, isn't it? If they didn't like each other, why would they go on the same cruise?
Maybe Barry flew them to his home in Canada, then they had to take a ferry (and NOT a cruise ship) back to the main city?

I think, based on the evidence presented so far, that Jill either already has a boyfriend (the photo on her desk in RE2), or she is into Chris:

    - they hold hands at the end of RE1 (PS1 version) when just the two of them survive

    - If only Jill & Barry survive, Jill says "He's alive - I just know." (The tone of the conversation hints that Jill & Chris are the equivalent to Barry and his wife & kids

    - Jill's epilogue in RE3 mentions that her lone goal is to find Chris

The fact that Carlos doesn't even get an epilogue file (in the exact same game he "starred" in), is pretty indicative of Capcom's feelings for Carlos....

Haha. No. They are standing "next" to each other, on what appears to be a cruise ship, staring off in the distance. Both of them look despondent. Jill has her own arms around herself.

Carlos didn't get an epilogue file so i guess they didn't have any plans for him.
Though Barry and Hunk had one and still no word on them. Capcom needs to kill some of these characters off.

but wasn't that a mere screw up on the english translation ?

isn't that file written by some name-less umbrella commander in the jp survivor ?

Except he didn't actually write the entry that was dated after the destruction of Raccoon. That was a translation error. So we don't know if he survived or not.

Why is the 'him getting away and surviving' the canon one? I've probably read the reason before but can't remember.

Didn't Nikolai get pulled into a hole in the ceiling and suffer a horrible, bloody death?
    No. Canonically he escapes.

He also had a cameo in the 1st Outbreak game, which can be considered canon as RE3 made it clear that he was sneaking off to do his own secret, covert activities...

I liked all the mercenaries from RE3... Yeah, even Carlos. Sure, he was a bit of a nob but I thought he was okay. I found him more appealing than many of the other 'dudes' in the series.

I found this secret file which may or may not help us solve the mystery of what happened to our Latino friend.

    Subject: Carlos Oliviera.
Profession: Umbrella hired mercenary / turned good guy.
Sightings: Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil- Umbrella Chronicles.
Likes: Brunettes, beer, beans and chilli.
    Dislikes: Monsters, zombies, feeling emasculated.
    Hobbies: Online dating, making tacos.
    Present location: Unknown.
Last seen: Flying away from Raccoon City in a helicopter... with one hand up Jill Valentine's mini skirt.

Capcom has a thing for making one-time characters ridiculously great and making recurring characters progressively shit.

I mean just compare RE3 Carlos to UC Carlos. Very definition of ugh.
