But you don't have to pick up the sniper rifle. And if you don't pick it up, you still get to fight him.

You HAVE to pick up the rifle, the story will not proceed if you don't do it. Beasley knows CV very well he will confirm this.

No, you don't have to pick up Alfred's weapon. You can proceed without sniper rifle (then the battle with Nosferatu is harder, because you can't just easly shoot him in his heart).

Yeah, that's what I figured. I've always picked it up, but I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that you don't have to.

unless you suck at aiming with the rifle like me and have to resort to mowing him down with the AK

You need three heart shots with the sniper rifle. The way I see it is, that means you can make 4 errors.

You don't have to pick up the rifle. It makes it a lot easier, but it's not a necessity.
