I think it was just going to be called Resident Evil: Nemesis, with just a subtitle like Resident Evil: Code Veronica, but like Archelon said they changed their minds and gave it a numbered title.

i heard at was planned as a side story, but when development started they changed there minds because they came up with a lot of stuff that is good enough to be main story.

I think it was somewhat of a side story because it took place before and after Re 2 and Jill isn't really trying to put an end to Umbrella at this point, she is just trying to escape and survive. I mean if Jill could have just found the military blockade and left the city with the army, it still would have been nuked. Don't get me wrong the events that took place in the game are important but city is more of the focal point than Umbrella.

    ...

Or so I read in an old Playstation magazine back in the day. Don't quote me in any of that or anything.

    As for a spin off?

GOD NO. I'm not found of any of the memories I have with the Gun Survivor or Outbreak series. They were just plain sad, and I don't think they would do any better now.

Claire and Chris's reunion, it's just two sibling who haven't meet in a while.

i say Jill's escape is much more important than a family reunion.

and Wesker has been a main villian from way before CVX, he was just unmasked in CVX, remember he was behind RE2 as well, so i don't find his appearance in CVX of much importance at all.

and besides, RE3 had the NEMESIS in it, and the UBCS, and showed what umbrella was really doing in the city, and what a lot of there plans where, it's well deserving of the number, more than CVX is anyway.
Regardless, a lot of the characters in RE3 merely appear in one game. Jill is like the only major character in the whole game that we see again since. Carlos, Nicholai and Nemesis (I mean the project, not just the one that appears in RE3, since that is obviously dead) are all MIA never to be seen again. However, killing off Brad Vickers and having Barry make a cameo at the end are all well and good, even then, they're MIA too. A lot of characters that are in RE3 appear to MIA. Want to know why? Because none of them are important to the story at large. Well, except maybe Barry.

Also, most of the important plot points can be found in the epilogues, not in the main story.

Everybody believed that Wesker was dead at that point so his return is very important.

Yes he was behind RE 2 but we found out about that after CVX, he talks about it in Wesker's Report.

nope, RE3 rightfully deserves the "3" numbering it got, because the destruction of Raccoon City is arguablly the single most important plot point in the entire series.

i don't see how people think 3 is a side story at all, i think it's more to do with the main story that CVX has.

CVX is just a side plot, it should have got 4, since it's more relavant that RE4 is, but no way should it have gotten 3, RE3 rightfully deserves that.

PS3 doesn't need spinoffs like the 360 does. With a PS3 you can play the old games, but for people with a 360 there is nothing for us. They should release the old games in the classic section, or a disk that has all the RE games. They don't have to add anything, maybe a few hidden easter eggs.

Just port the games capcom and microsoft! I'll give you money.

I would still love to see Jill in RE 6 if it is made as a main protagonist, and perhaps even the RE remake make it onto the PS 3 at some point. I mean, the remake would make heaps of money if Capcom releases it a few months after RE 5. The mania would be off the scale.

Yeah, now that you mention it, I think I heard something about that, too, long, long ago. It's sort of amusing how Capcom got around that deal simply by titling it "CODE: Veronica." It's even more amusing considering CVX came out on the PS2 just a year after the original's release.

I'm not the biggest fan of RE3, but I do think it deserved the "3" title. Although it really only focuses on Jill's escape (with a few thrown-in details about the history of Raccoon City), the game was the first to feature the destruction of Raccoon City, and that alone makes me think it's very well-deserving of the "3" title.

    RE3 was a side-story of sorts but it wasn't a spinoff...

UC was a spinoff, albeit an extremely popular one. I mean, it's a rail shooter >.>
