Or have I got the release dates in the wrong order?

REmake is the best game from the series, though I really liked RE3 and RE2 aswell.

I don't see any validity in the war complaints. There's only so many games where you can play as someone caught up in chaos, clueless and helpless. It's about time they started fighting back.

Resident Evil Remake for its graphics and tone, and music.
Resident Evil Dead Aim for being the 1st over the shoulder.
Resident Evil 4 for action, and gun upgrading.
Those are my reasons as to why I like those games the most.Last edited by missvalentine; 02-23-2009, 02:47 AM.

I do remember the "Blackhawk Down" influence, but that film is about being trapped and the panic of being an overwhelmed soldier in a foreign land. (Great, great film. And if I can ever get from underneath textbooks, I will read the novelization.)
I just don't see how RE5 is any more of a "war" game than RE4, since it is basically the same camera/controls/QTEs/etc.
Frankly, I am here for the story. RE5's story looks immense, epic, and rewarding. I hope it meets my expectations.
At least Kirk is there to make me feel like everything's "alright."
i remember when capcom stated that RE5 is going to feel different, and that players will question whether this really is an RE game or not. i always wondered what he meant by that, now i think i know.
but while playing the demo, it just felt a lot like a war game, the atmosphere was like a war game, or something very similar to it anyway. RE has always been heavily about the atmosphere and had a specific feel to it's games, you always new when you were playing an RE game. i never got that feel from the demo sadly. hopfully the game gets that feeling back.

Part of "war" is the horror of it, and the quest to survive. There's your survival & your horror. True "horror" was almost non-existant in RE4, though the game did try in a few spots, as Spencer's post up above points out. No one here has played RE5 in its entirety and thus cannot know if it contains similar elements - though the premise of navigating a cavern with only a flashlight seems like prime real estate for a frightening good time.
And if anything, the militaristic feel for RE was first implemented in RE3. The music, the UBCS, the Nemesis "war machine," etc.
You're letting your bias against RE5 slip through the cracks again...tsk, tsk.
Sheesh...so many passing judgment already on RE5...
EDIT: Anyway, back on topic. REmake is the textbook RE experience. The original nightmare, polished to perfection. and i definitely felt it while playing the demo. maybe the whole game is not like that, but parts of it really do feel like a war game.

I don't really understand the notion of Resident Evil 5 being identified as a war game... I don't see how it looks, feels, or plays like one at all. It plays like RE4, which isn't like any war game I've ever played. And I've never played a war game where the enemies were baddies who wielded primarily blunt objects and attempted to bludgeon your face in, or summonsed a fanged parasite out of their mouths and take a few chunks out of your face. RE5 only has a segments that I could see being identified as being like a war game; the vehicle sequences come to mind. However, it is ultimately still an action horror adventure game, just like how RE has always been.

RE3 was great, Jill being my favorite lead character and all. Wesker being my favorite bad guy. But as a whole, i'd have to say RE2 was my favorite for some reason,....something about it holds a special place in me.
