I don't see why it makes them loonies. They wanted to make bio-weapons, effective killing machines. Experimenting with different animal species is obviously something they'd look into to create effective B.O.Ws.

Actually it didn't. =P It was brought to help with the Reclamation Project.

Umbrella tested as much species as they could to find a viable B.O.W. Out of all of them, there were only a few successes and it usually involved genetic engineering anyway. The Hunters, Tyrants and a few others such as the Albinoids were the only real successes. That's why they continued to administer viruses to all sorts of animals.

Am I the only one that thought it was immensely bad-ass that you essentially got to go to the first main Umbrella lab? It was just amazing how the game went full circle with the storyline. We actually got to play as Chris and walk around the lab that was the birth of Umbrella, the birth of the progenitor virus. When I started up the computer and the Umbrella logo showed up with that boot-up sound effect the computer in RE1's lab made... dude, I creamed my pants. I just thought it was cool to see where Umbrella, and later Tricell, did their earliest research.

I'm sorry, but anyone who hates on RE5's story is beyond help. This game brought to light so many things and tied together a lot of large and little plot devices from the whole series. I get not liking the gameplay if you miss the horror/puzzle-heavy games of old, but the story delivered in full, in my opinion and I just don't see what there is to be disappointed about.

The Wesker Children thing is inspired and answers a lot of questions for the series. Without this explanation a lot of Wesker's story would be one lucky coincidence after another. Now we know there was a plan at work by Spencer. The dormant virus in Jill not only made her valuable enough to save in Wesker's eyes, but added to the development of Uroboros, and even Wesker's demise. I mean, these are the story elements that fascinate me in RE5. Who the hell thought such a small part of RE3 would have huge ramifications on the series? To top it off, none of the big "F-U's" people were expecting from Capcom happened. Chris isn't emo by the end, Chris got to jack Wesker up in hand to hand and gun combat (though it wasn't easy), Jill is alive, there are no clones, and we get closure on the Umbrella storyline. Perfection in my eyes.
