The whole Africa setting, the ruins, labs, tanker, lava volcano... All those with an excellent level of detail.
I actually agree with you, the amount of scenary porn in the game is excellent.

    Also CV:X and Outbreak.

RE5 had the most beautiful environments, obviously, but I have to say REmake had the best environments overall...mainly for its absolutely incredible ambience. Things like shadows, the sound of the wind in the outer areas of the mansion, everything. I've never played the game myself, but I've seen playthroughs, and the environments were the best part of watching it. So incredibly immersive.

Now that i think of it i loved the Arklay Garden areas in REmake and Lisa Trevors little shack thing, they were pretty damn scary

I'm on the fence about really liking the environments in RE5. You visit most areas once, and never see them again. Of course...since you can just select any chapter you want, you really don't need an excuse to backtrack. However, I think seeing sections of Kijuju at different times of day would have made for some interesting gameplay. I think the swamps/marshes and the village would have been a bit creepy with a nightime setting. That would be something I would like to have included if Capcom did any more DLC...randomly changing levels in Mercs from day to night, factoring in weather, etc.

I think REmake and some of the Outbreak areas are pretty much win.

Kinda torn on RE5's setting. In the early trailers the African town looked really cool, and I could just imagine what kind scenarios could happen. Then the game came out and I realized it's just fancy hallways and arenas. Hallways and arenas on a straight path. =/

I didn't wanna log in, but I saw this topic and just had to. I love this subject.

I cannot decide between Outbreak on a whole, and RE3. They locations and environments there are marvelously spectacular in design. Those would both be my favorites. With the city parts being the best. End of the Line in Outbreak 2 was especially great. And the whole Raccoon Streets part of RE3.

I think Remake would be next. The whole mansion aesthetic, and the Guard house are amazingly chilling to see in such detail. And Lisa's cabin, and the garden and underground tunnels would be favorite areas of mine as well. Especially that little room under Lisa's cabin with all the candles, then there is a little hallway flooded with water and riddles with snakes that leads to her bedroom. The atmosphere is overwhelming at that point.

I really can't decide which is my favorite between the three.

I have to agree with Gaurdhousemusic as well. RE0 houses some of my favorite locations in the series. The train was great, and the experimental facility, with such beautiful rendering is still not surpassed (in my eyes) by any other game to this day. I love it to much. The graphical detail is amazing. I love playing RE0 and just staring at the backgrounds for ages. Same with RE3. XD

I also did love the whole Village area in RE4, it was pretty neat. I liked the foggy backdrop and the mystery that surrounded the place.

Next is Code: Veronica, all the enviorments keep changing from an island to freaking Antartica!

I thought RE5 had the worst locations ever in the enter series. It even put me off playing a second play through. It was dull, boring, and uninspired.

Same with most of CVX. I only liked some tiny bits of CVX's location. Maybe it's cause of the graphics, but Rockfort island was very dull and muddy. I did like in Chris's small section though, were the mansion is all on fire, and in Antarctica when all the water is frozen into ice. But other than that. I thought it was rather bland.

I liked the RPD, and the streets a bit in RE2. But other than that. Not really.

I wonder if there's a way to debug the game to get rid of the characters so I can get shots of the backgrounds (although I know nothing about how to do it). They really were excellent in that game.

Agreed. I loved it during the day with the overcast, and at night it just got creepy! Particularly the Pueblo area...
                Mass production? Ridiculous!

I have to say that all the games have their own appeal and best and worst qualities. I really liked re4 town settings the most I think though. You walk through during the day at the start, then later on you come through and it's a raining dark evening. Awesome. As far as I can remember the other games didn't have day and night, unless someone knows other wise. REmake would have to come in second with all the improvements and upgrades graphically, it really made the foreboding atmosphere pop.

I would have to say Resident Evil, I love the streets, lab, and police station. The transition from the streets to the police station, to the sewers and finally to the lab was perfect in my opinion.

RE 4: Loved the gothic vibe of the village. The island and the castle weren't bad either.

I'd say CVX but that is only because of its tie in to the Ashford family, which for me are the most interesting topic of RE. In terms of backdrops I liked the most, probably RE2 or REmake.

Raccoon City has to be my favorite location. A city in flames, in ruin. Overrun with zombies. Dark city streets, abandoned homes and cars - an imposing concrete maze.

Though the added areas pertaining to Lisa Trevor in REmake give RC a run for its money.

EDIT: I am primarily speaking of the "city portion" of Raccoon City. I could do without the ridiculous police station with numerous rooms only accessible with card-suit-themed keys, not to mention the giant laboratory built underneath it.

The old mansion from RE1/Remake and the police station from RE2. Good old times....
