I still wish they would release 3.5 that footage looks like a real horror game

    Well said.

RE5 did have the better story, but pretty much everything else was inferior to RE4 (aside from obvious stuff like graphics or weapon diversity). Linearity, forced co-op, less creepy atmosphere, no grid "puzzle" inventory, less puzzles, etc. In a nutshell, Mikami delivered a game that I could play several times through in a row and not get bored. Takeuchi did not.

Shut up, you ignorant, sexist, misogynistic bastard!

I don't think Jill serving in Delta force at a unnaturally young age is as far fetched as zombies, a killer virus, and a corporate conspiracy. At least, that is what I chose to believe, tee hee. But I think. . .hasn't this been rectonned or something? I"m sure News Bot has mentioned that fact before.

But, generally speaking about this thread (and not naming any names), if anyone honestly believes that Shinji Mikami "preferred" 1.5 to RE2, or "preferred" RE 3.5 to RE4, then you clearly have no idea what the hell you're talking about. Mikami was the one who decided to can 1.5, and Mikami is the one who settled on RE4's final direction. Not Capcom. He has personally stated in several interviews over the years about these things. It's not exactly rare knowledge.

I remember when RE4 was originally revealed in Game Informer(along with Suda's Killer 7), Mikami stated directly that he took the reigns of director for RE4 because him and the team were completely unhappy with it's previous versions. Mikami was the one who chose the more actiony survival horror route RE4 went down--whether you like it or not. Why Mikami says he wants nothing to do with RE5, or RE6, has absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay style, or the less focus of horror, but inferior level design and lack of polishing.

I think anyone with a level head knows that RE5, while possibly having a "better" story than 4's( 5's is serviceable at best), it's gameplay and polish level is so vastly inferior to 4. THAT is what Mikami is referring to. That's what he means when he says it would make him "mad" to play it and find something he thinks is terrible game design. Hell, there were a couple sections of RE5 that had me personally pissed off(mainly, the turret El Gigante fight. Talk about total BS) because of what I thought was pretty inferior design in comparison to RE4. We'll never know the kind of game Mikami would have made RE5 if he had made it, but I think we can be sure he would have certainly pushed RE4's concepts much further than what Capcom did.

RE4 was one of the best games ever made. RE5. . .not so much. Imagine how you would feel playing a sequel to a game you made that fails on so many levels to do anything new, or even better for the most part, than the game you directed. RE5 felt so half-baked, it's really not even funny. I think Mikami would piss blood if he played RE5.

    Anyways, that's my two cents.

I'm pretty sure RE4 has no problem being taken seriously. It regularly gets brought up as one of the best games of the decade and all.

Plus any chance the series had to be taken seriously was shot in the head with Code Veronica.

Ok, people are arguing over things like characters doing extraordinary stuff, or how a mouse can write diaries...

when it's a freakin game we're talking about!

I mean, why does the Tyrant have his heart on the RIGHT side!?

Don't underestimate Umbrella. Anyway, none of the main characters are regular people, which is what made RESIDENT EVIL OUTBREAK so good.

Speaking of TINY and being taken seriously:

LOL Seriously, when are people gonna learn? The moment Capcom put DIJ in a RE game... ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! Anything. He's a damn mouse that writes a diary for fucks sakes.

At this point even freakin Tofu makes perfect sense.

Yeah, the Claire intro to Code: VERONICA was a crowning moment of failure. It was entirely worthy of mockery. The only plus to it was that it got a good chunk of the awful out of the way with nice ans fast. The love sub-plot is still there though...

Yeah, Claire was agile with knifes. Knew how to evade machine gun fire with confidence and shoot dual pistols. How many people use dual pistols in real life? Most of the characters weren't normal.

Brilliant! As a lonely pervert who is also an arrogant twat, I choose to use coherent, substantiated arguments to support my point of view. And thus I usually receive successful, eloquent counterpoints such as those above. Gotta love the internet!

I think Jill's Boob is a pretty cool guy. eh makes sense and doesnt arrogant of anything...

Grem, I confirm that I will start taking you seriously when you stop using yourself as a source of implied truthful, factual representation, that I'm sure of. Okay?

But a quick run down of my counterpoints to what you said:
    - All characters in the series do almost the impossible, except that I already said in RE1 & RE2 they seemed "normal." You argue that in RE3 & RECV they start to do the impossible. I agree, that's why I previously said (and I'll type it again so it sinks into your head) in RE1 & RE2 they seemed essentially normal. And if you're going to use RE3 Jill and RECV Chris as examples of those 2 characters doing the impossible, then you need to take your precious Leon and examine his feats in RE4. Oh no, then your point isn't valid!!!
    - Claire carrying a knife. It seems to be something she does to imitate her older brother. Wow, so farfetched! And she was riding a motorcycle, alone, on a night drive (for who knows how many miles) to see her brother. Should she not have had any personal protection for a solitary road trip? She is a 19-year-old girl after all. But nice try on your argument. Maybe you thought she was going to philosophy class? (Oh, and nice backpedal from your initial assessment that she was a "master knife user" to "no college students carry knives on their vest." What's your next shift in stance going to be?)
    - Leon gets hurt in RE2 and has flaws and is the most believable...blah, blah, blah. Let's see, Chris and Jill can be hurt and/or poisoned in RE1. Jill is infected in RE3. So there goes your theory about Leon being the only character to get hurt. (And for believability purposes, even if it is only a gameplay mechanic: recovering from poisoning > recovering from gunshot wound to the chest.) As for flaws...Rebecca is a scared, nearly helpless character in RE1 (timidness); Barry goes against his better judgment and works with Wesker out of fear for his family's safety (selfishness); Jill goes along with Barry even though he's acting strangely (poor judgment/cluelessness); Chris is sometimes dumb as rocks in RE1 (retardedness); etc. They're all flawed too! Richard dies via Yawn or Neptune in RE1...therefore I confirm he's the most believable, relatable, and ordinary protagonist in the entire series.

Oh, wow. Insults. Over video game characters. I have such a feeling of grown upness and maturititity in this thread now. Yup. Let's end it here, though guys, before the maturity ups the tone too much. And I have to ban you.

Let's be clear here...the weapon usage of every character except, possibly, Chris and Jill is whacky. Leon uses a flamethrower, which is hardly standard police equipment. Claire uses a grenade launcher. Rebecca, a teenaged chemist, uses ungodly weapons too. Then...looses them all. The Outbreak characters use a variety of guns, even the characters that have no obvious experience with weapons.

Personally, I'm OK with it. It pushes the boundrary on suspension of disblief, certainly. But most guns and weapons are designed for army grunts to use, so they tend to be as simple as possible and reliable as possible. You don't want a weapon that takes sixty hours of training to use, and takes ten minutes to set up. It's not impossibe that a smart civilian could work out how to use most of them.

The RE games are over the top, sure. The qualifications the cast had in the origional were actually impossible to achieve. You simply couldn't do it by there age. There is simply a certain level of pushing the boundary of suspended belief that you can't go beyond without popping the bubble, and for me, that was Leon's ninja like antics. Yeah, it's potentially possible to do the stuff Leon did. So is putting all the pieces of a computer in a box, shaking it and having an assembled PC come out. It's hard for me to believe that goverment training turned Leon from a rookie cop into someone capable of incredibly complex moves. Which is a shame, as I really like Leon in RE2. But that's my personal issue. Your mileage may well vary.
