  • Who was Ada working for in RE4

This has always bothered me. Who did she betray Wesker for? Is this ever clearly answered in RE stories, or am I just overlooking something?

Wasn't she working for someone else though?

The actual entity isn't really known. It's just referred to as The Organization, or The Agency.

I always wanted Wesker to tracked down and kill Ada for this.

She works for 'an organization'. That's all we know.

She was originally employed by the rival company of Umbrella ("The 3rd Organization"), the same one Wesker joined after the Mansion Incident. After BH2 though, she apparently left and joined another unknown organization (Death's Door seems to imply that she left because she knew Wesker, sooner or later, was going to dispose of her). Wesker hired her again in 2004 and that's when her employer asked her to prove her loyalty with betraying him.

Also, 'The Agency' is a mistranslation and was only ever used in S.D. Perry's novels. There's no such name in the series. Annette actually says "a certain organization". That, and it's actually The 3rd Organization at that time, not the organization which Ada belongs to in Separate Ways.

It is a misconception to refer to Umbrella's rival company as the "third organization". This term only makes sense within the context of RE4, which had three "organizations": Los Illuminados, the U.S. Government and Ada. The "third party" translation in the English version is a much better approximation of what was meant in the first place. From a 2004 in-game perspective, we don't know the exact affiliations of Ada and Wesker with the organizations either. Summed up before how the term "organization" has been used throughout the series.

                  Ada's organization remains a mystery.
But I think that her organization is not interested in the viruses for the same reasons than Umbrella or Wesker.
They appear to be on the good side, espacially when Ada betrayed Wesker to obtain the sample and told Leon not to worry, that she would take good care of it.

But I'm under the impression that her organization in RE4 is different than the one she belonged to at the time of RE2.

He was still part of The 3rd Organization (Umbrella's rival company) in 2004, but not Ada's organization.

Yeah I know it's only a BH4-context name, but it's better than nothing at all and helps distinguish it from 'the organization'. In a number of BH4 strategy guides (and including BIOHAZARD archives II), Wesker's organization is referred to as The 3rd Organization, and one of the guides actually has his career timeline, which explains that his actions in Raccoon City were the result of a test of loyalty by The 3rd Organization. It's just a name which has stuck and is used to refer to the rival company post-BH4. Also, the 'third party' isn't explicitly Ada, it's her employers. That's why "3rd Organization" is now used as the rival company name.

But I'm under the impression that her organization in RE4 is different than the one she belonged to at the time of RE2.
This is true and is explained in better detail in BIOHAZARD archives II. http://www.projectumbrella.net/artic...RD-archives-II

Just as Leon arrived at the European village in order to save kidnapped Ashley, one woman was working behind the scenes. Her name was Ada Wong.

She is a female spy, who fought together with Leon in the Raccoon City destruction, and was operating with secret instructions to steal the 'G-Virus' from the Umbrella underground laboratory. She snuck into Raccoon City immediately before its destruction, happened to meet Leon there, and pretended she was a civilian looking for her Umbrella worker lover, and used that as cover to steal the G-Virus. She used Leon to to steadily work towards her goal, but she found herself attracted to Leon's single-hearted devotion, and a bond was formed between the two of them. Then, although Ada successfully obtained the G-Virus, she was tragically wounded trying to protect Leon, but was saved by Wesker as she teetered on the edge of death.

Six years later, at the beckoning of Wesker, Ada joined 'The Third Organization,' and performed information-gathering missions under his orders. The objective; obtain a sample of the 'dominant strain Plaga' being developed by Luis at the Los Illuminados cult. Ada intercepted an e-mail requesting medical assistance sent by Luis to a university friend, and from this correspondence learned that he wanted to leave the cult as a personal decision.

So, she decided to approach him and offer him a deal; she would protect him if he would steal a sample from the cult. However, Leon made his appearance as an agent of the United States. Minutes after ending her reunion with Leon, Wesker's cold voice delivered the final blow; "Eliminate any doubt. Do not take things further." Ada was shocked by the cold order to kill Leon.

Ada's plan began to go horribly wrong, with Luis being killed by Saddler, and the sample falling back into the hands of the cult. Even worse, Krauser, who was secretly operating between The Third Organization and the cult making it a three-way struggle.

Having overcome his human limitations Krauser's objective was to become the strongest warrior. Krauser wanted the great power of the virus ever since severely injuring his left arm in Operation Javier, in which he participated together with Leon in 2002. All in the name of self desire, he went so far as to even fake his own death, to approach Wesker and to join The Third Organization.'

Amidst the chaos, Ada turned her back on Wesker's instructions and began operating independently according to her own objectives. She sometimes used and sometimes supported Leon in the pursuit of these goals, much like the Raccoon City incident of six years ago. Leon defeated Krauser, who was sent by Wesker as an assassin, and Ada fought the cult leader Saddler in order to take back the dominant strain Plaga. Then, when Saddler transformed and showed his true form as as a Plaga dominator, they fought together magnificently to beat him back.

After repelling Saddler, Ada stole the dominant strain Plaga from Leon, and after saying their goodbyes, she escaped from the island moments before its explosion. Leon also successfully escaped the island together with Ashley, whom he saved from the cult.

"I don't do evil." Just as her words described, Ada delivered a simple Subordinate Plaga strain to The Third Organization and sent the real strain to a different 'Organization', the one she actually belongs to. In other words, Ada was 'a double agent.' She was working for a seperate organization the whole time and her alliance with Wesker was just a facade.

Wesker was very hurt by Ada's betrayal. However, it might not have been a total surprise to him. Wesker obtained a dead dominant strain plaga through a different route and began his own research, taking the first big step towards a new goal.
Following from the biohazard 4 Perfect Guide:

                    July 1998
Arklay Laboratory is destroyed. Lost his precious gift, and Wesker still manages to join the 3rd Organization.

                    August 1998
Ada sneaks into the underground lab in Raccoon City; she then obtains the information that "G" is almost finished.

                    September 30, 1998.
Under Wesker's order, Ada succeeds in retrieving the "G" sample.

                    December 27, 1998.
Taking a number of B.O.W.s with him, Wesker and his force strikes Umbrella's base on Rockfort Island.

                    December 27, 1998.
Wesker sneaks into Umbrella's Antarctic Base; his target is "T-Veronica".

                    Unknown Date, 2004.
Ada arrives in Europe and sneaks into an island which is controlled by the Los Illuminados.

                    Unknown Date, 2004.
Ada succeeds in retrieving the "Plaga" sample from the Los Illuminados.
                    Precious information obtained through espionage.
                    The final result is "G".

Under some orders, Wesker made a plan to obtain the Tyrant, which was anticipated to be the ultimate mass production B.O.W., and to join the 3rd Organization. In the coming July, his plan was going well, but his most precious gift was eventually destroyed by S.T.A.R.S.

Two months passed after the mansion incident. The organization wants to test Wesker's loyalty, and for him, this is a chance to retrieve his loss. The female spy Ada who sneaked into Umbrella got the information that the "G-virus" is almost finished. On this information, he turned to focus on retrieving "G" with Ada. During their mission, the appearance of Leon the new cop overset their plan, and they have to change it. But finally, Ada still managed to retrieve the G-Virus.
                    Personal Resume of Albert Wesker:

                    Umbrella Corp. Associate Researcher
                    |
                    Umbrella Corp. Chief Researcher
                    |
                    Umbrella Intelligence Agent
                    S.T.A.R.S. Unit Captain
                    S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team Leader
                    |
                    Jump to the 3rd Organization
Ada was originally intended to be loyal to Wesker when BH4 was released. This is pretty clear from Assignment Ada (which had the involvement of some of the writers behind Wesker's Report), and was only changed when they decided to include Separate Ways (no idea when it was written so there's no telling whether it was dropped before release to save space and was replaced with a smaller, pretty rushed sub-plot, or actively a retcon). Her whole betrayal and ulterior motives storyline was written by Murata, who included it in Umbrella Chronicles with the Death's Door scenario.

I find hard to belive that if Wesker was THAT hurt about her betrayal he didnt do anything about it.

I'm sure Wesker saw it as a minor speed bump. After all, we know that he eventually got Plagas. Ada just denied him the Master Plagas.

                          Because she's bamf like that.

They are working for the same organization in BH2. Ada just leaves at one point and joins another. Then Wesker asks her back in 2004.

                              Let me get this straight

                              - Wesker was working for Umbrella

                              - Wesker betrayed Umbrella for the 2nd Organization?

                              - Both Ada and Wesker were employed by the 2nd Organization?

                              - Ada's unknown Organization is the 3rd Organization?

So Wesker betrayed Umbrella for this 2nd Organization and Ada betrayed Wesker and the 2nd Organization for the 3rd one?
