Decided to translate a bit of BHDC dialogue to make sure Chris did actually ask Leon to send a rescue party. He did. Nice detail.

Since the Mansion Incident, it wasn't easy to locate the whereabouts of Chris, who had vanished...
I made full use of the information that the U.S. Government possessed and finally pinpointed him, but unfortunately, now Claire had disappeared
After that, we looked for Claire for several weeks
Then, finally I received an email that she was imprisoned on Rockfort
    I conveyed it to Chris
While Chris asked me to dispatch a rescue party, he jumped ahead to rescue Claire...

There are no real changes. Most of it is simply because she is depicted differently, Annette also seems quite different in her depiction despite her intentions being the same. This is primarily because of the localization. Different voice directors and translators give them different intentions through their speech and mannerisms between games. It's pretty pathetic.

EDIT: Krauser has an additional few lines at the end of his scenario. Right after the coin bit:

"There was truth in the darkness...
        Many people didn't notice it...
I ended my worthless life then
On that day, in the depth of that dense forest
        I came across the truth..."

I'm talking about the "choking your brother to death" part. I highly doubt thaf was translators fault (the worthless, not fun to play part maybe is though). Annette was just less crazy, Alexia/Alfred relationship was completly derrailed.

Put that down to the new team simply wanting a different direction. There are a few changes in Game of Oblivion and the game as a whole in order to make the re-tellings more dramatic and "dark".

              Another file.

              Raccoon City, 1998, September
              Local city population approximately 100,000
It is located in the American Midwest in a valley surrounded by mountains in the outskirts.

              September, 1998.
Civic unrest spread, triggered by bizarre murder cases that were frequent several months ago. On a certain night, frequent simultaneous occurences of riots and traffic accidents occured in various parts of the city. Citizens were left in a panicked state and all lifelines were cut off.

Although some Raccoon City police officers and firefighters performed eager rescue operations, the situation continued to worsen.

The town was soon filled with large numbers of "walking dead", Zombies.

In the process of translating the REV file related to the Malacoda and discovered another pleasant cock-up. The official translation mentions "Gyrodactylus salaris" as the cause of it, but in reality, this isn't the parasite in question. It actually says that they were infected with the "hadamushi" disease, which is a common Japanese term for fish infection by parasites belonging to the Capsalidae superfamily and Benedenia subfamily. The actual parasite isn't named.

Gyrodactylus is not in the Capsalidae or Benedinia families. If anything, the parasite is the well-known Benedenia seriolae or Neobenedenia melleni (which is the most common Benedenia).

Oh, and, Gyrodactylus can't survive in sea water. So there's that.

Capcom should hire a biological consultant or something to at least make things semi-realistic.

The translators almost completely manufactured a plot hole with the "dominant species Plaga". The only reference to it in BH4? Mistranslated into gibberish.

Some information on the monitors, from the BIOHAZARD 3 LAST ESCAPE Official Guidebook - Complete Conquest of Nemesis. This makes it the earliest source of information on them, and unsurprisingly, it appears almost word-for-word in Archives several years later. Yet some still doubt how relevant the Japanese guides are.

MONITORS - THOSE WHO BECAME THE EYES OF UMBRELLA (Page 339)

Several people charged with special missions, called "monitors", were sent inside the U.B.C.S. They are special agents under the direct control of Umbrella executives and their existence is not told to ordinary members. The monitor's duty in Raccoon City is to gather valuable data under the special situation of the most unprecedented large-scale biohazard produced in history, which is difficult to obtain.
The collection and destruction of samples and data left in medical facilities and laboratories, the field survey of mutant creatures and virus contaminated organisms, including Zombies, and reports of combat records before the annihilation of the U.B.C.S., which is sacrificed to obtain actual combat data--- etc, that is, they are not allies for the general members to trust.
They are live surveillance cameras of Umbrella calmly observing the ways in which guinea pigs die. In addition to being administered superior virus antibodies, a relay base for many escape means and outside communication was arranged behind closed doors by Umbrella agents which infiltrated the city beforehand.
Because of such duties, monitors have more excellent careers than general U.B.C.S. members and moreover, only those who can be controlled through rewards with no sense of justice or morality are selected. However, it seems that one of them conspired to take advantage of the chaos and kill all the other monitors, and will try to sell the data he holds.
Side-Note: The term for "monitor" (監視員) is actually more accurately translated as "surveillance agent" in this specific case. That is, after all, precisely what these agents are. Monitors/Observer are the closest alternatives, but still quite loose translations, while Supervisor is pretty much completely fucking random. But hey, I'm sure the translators know what they're doing, right?

I come bearing strange and exotic gifts. Did you know the rocket launcher in BH1 has a short backstory? From the BIO HAZARD Directors Cut -Inside of BIO HAZARD- book.

                          BERETTA M92FS
An Italian 9mmX19 caliber large military pistol manufactured by Beretta. Due to its tough structure based on MIL specifications, ease of handling and excellent double action trigger rapid fire characteristics, it has become the standard adopted gun in S.T.A.R.S. and many police, including the U.S. Army. Since voices within S.T.A.R.S. felt that the 9mmX19 caliber was inadequate in this case, they are due to perform a re-trial of the standard handgun.

                          COLT PYTHON
A large double action revolver of 357 magnum caliber. A cooling mouth called a ventilated rib was opened in the barrel, and hit rate improved. It is popular among gun maniacs for its good looks and high level of performance, able to tolerate the use of powerful magnum bullets. It is not a standard adopted gun of S.T.A.R.S., but Barry carries this gun in the game as his private possession. A high power handgun maniac, he usually uses the M29 and 3inch 44 magnum.

                          SHOTGUN
A gun so famous it could be said to be synonymous with shotguns, made by the American Remington Corporation. There are various variations and is used in public institutions such as the police and came to be familiar among citizens as a weapon for hunting and self-defense. The Remington employed in the mansion was a forehand grip type with a wooden stock, and was kept for the use of self-defense of the researchers.

                          GRENADE GUN
The Grenade Launcher was not formally adopted within S.T.A.R.S., where the use of weapons with more power than necessary is not consented to, but was used in lectures for combat. Concerning the Grenade Gun within the game, it is a proto-model of a new product of SACO Defense Corporation, a major military manufacturer, and was supplied out of nowhere by firearms specialist Joseph. There are three in the unit and the models slightly differ. Forest carried it in this investigation.

                          FLAMETHROWER
This flamethrower was made by Umbrella Industries and was originally developed for experiment facilities. Since flames had the greatest effect on living things, they were prepared in case of emergencies, such as the escape of laboratory animals.

                          ROCKET LAUNCHER
A four twin rocket launcher. It was confiscated during a transaction between mafias, the manufacturer country was not clear and the shady thing slept in the storage warehouse of the local Raccoon Police Department. Because the attached instructions were in kanji, it is believed to be an Asian product. Barry took it in this investigation and loaded it onto the helicopter. Only Brad knew it and it seemed to be a secret to Wesker and the other members.

Below are the original BH1 enemy bios written by Kenichi Iwao. They were and still are the basis for the information on these enemies, and remain canon to a degree. Essentially, anything below that is contradicted in a later source is outdated and/or retconned information. However, there's enough that fits to make the following quite a treasure trove of interesting details. From BIO HAZARD Directors Cut -Inside of BIO HAZARD-. Only remaining enemy to do is Cerberus.

                            SECONDARY INFECTED CREATURES
Secondary infected creatures. Each of these creatures preyed on the dead flesh of Zombies and Cerberus invaded by the Clay Virus which had begun to leak in an accident, and malformed under the influence of the still active virus. As is often the case with creatures controlled by the Clay Virus, their personality becomes violent and their bodies become large. Although it is rare for them to positively attack, they pounce on men without fear if their territory is invaded or they are attacked. Of course, although all were creatures lacking in practicality as a B.O.W., they are reported here as effect samples of the Clay Virus.

                            ZOMBIE
The Clay Virus ε type variant which leaked due to an accident in the Raccoon facility also infected personnel. As a result, these Zombies were born. When Zombie is heard, the impression is that of a ghost of hell revived from a graveyard, but are they not exactly dead. For humans attacked by the Clay Virus ε variant, the cerebral neocortex necrotizes and they become kind of brain dead, their actions limited merely to simple survival activity along with instinct. As a result, they move to a feeling of starvation and are a sad existence which wanders about in a quest for food. Moreover, although the body is enlarged due to the an unusual secretion of growth hormone, appearance itself becomes a decomposed corpse for the remarkable drop in metabolism.
Apparently, their habits before infection slightly remain and they focus on and roam around places which had a relationship to them. They also seem to be able to handle the simple action of opening and closing doors.

                            CROW
While the omnivorous jungle crows which inhabited the Raccoon outskirts pecked meat such as that of Zombies, they were secondarily infected with the Clay Virus. Although there is almost no apparent change, the crows go mad, attacking without fear of gunshots. Once noise is made, it will cooperate with others and attack from overhead with its strong thick beak.

                            WASP
Bees which fed on pollen of Plant 42 were affected by the Clay Virus. They boundlessly grew large due to the abnormal secretion of growth hormone and usually came to possess bodies ten times that of the individual. Toxicity also increased with enlargement. They pounce mercilessly on foreign enemies approaching their nest.

                            ADDER
Adders which inhabited the forest area of Raccoon preyed on creatures holding the Clay Virus and were secondarily infected. Although a change in appearance is barely seen, the hemorrhagic venom it originally held has become stronger. They live in tree tops and underground passages and attack prey by sensing its body temperature.

                            WEBSPINNER AND OTHERS
Since they are creatures whose primitive body structure could facilitate gene manipulation, research using spiders and insects was actively conducted some time ago. This Web Spinner is one of the B.O.W.s developed in this early stage. In relation to growth, rewriting DNA caused the spider to become gigantic, but no practicality as a weapon remained and the research was discontinued. However, the prototype of the Clay Virus which is inseparable from the success of later B.O.W.s was discovered in these test subjects.
The Web Spinner was disposed leaving several subjects for data use, but one subject which escaped survived in the basement and continued growing. Furthermore, its body became huge and it was nicknamed Black Tiger, and this Web Spinner which began to attack humans was feared among the researchers.
Baby Spiders, babies of Web Spinners, grow to some extent inside the womb but crawl out as soon as the parent dies.

                            YAWN
Originally it was a creature created for experiments in performing gene manipulation of reptiles (probably large squamata), but escaped and became huge and berserk under the influence of the Clay Virus ε type variant which later leaked in an accident. Its appearance itself is a large snake but traces of the gene manipulation can be closely seen on several parts of its body and can possibly be said to be a creature with characteristics of both reptiles and amphibians. Other than the properties of Clay Virus infection on its body, it is violent and aggressive. It made the mansion of the Raccoon facility into its stronghold and, apparently, some researchers that survived after the accident fell victim.
It has a large body a little less than 40 feet and gulps humans in a single bound. Considering its size and quick movement, it seems that it could become a powerful B.O.W. if put into practical use. Incidentally, Yawn is the nickname given by researchers and originates from its greatly open mouth which seems to completely yawn.

                            NEPTUNE
An early B.O.W. which was developed using the Clay Virus α type on Great White sharks. However as a result of the experiment, it was found that for organisms such as sharks with the old Clay Virus type, immediate effects were meager and it became clear that substantial strengthening could not be expected, so the test subjects were abandoned and disposed of except for one for progress observation. Although it was not particularly successful for a B.O.W., it should be specially mentioned that a second generation was born from this Neptune. Sharks are ovoviviparous creatures. Perhaps the test subject conceived before viral infection. The mother shark altered due to the Clay Virus gave birth to dozens of off-spring, but all the fries died unable to tolerate the sudden changes in their bodies and only two of them remained. However, changes due to the Clay Virus similar to the mother were confirmed in the remaining two. They provided valuable data on the influence of the Clay Virus to fetuses through the mother’s body. Although we depend on cloning for B.O.W. production, biological weapons in which self-reproduction is possible may be born in the future.

                            PLANT 42
The Clay Virus ε type has also demonstrated its effect on not only animals, but plants too. When Umbrella Corp. researcher Henry Sarton injected the Clay Virus ε type into a foliage plant in the dormitory room out of curiosity, he discovered it had powerful influence on this kind of plant. Sarton named this test subject Plant 42 and continued observation, but when a few days passed it grew unimaginably large and was simply left unattended in the end. Afterwards, Plant 42 continued growing rapidly without bounds and became a monster which actively moved like an animal and attacked humans with long ivies. Escaping somewhere its attacks can’t reach is best. Caution is required when confronting it, attacks with live cartridges such as a Beretta or shotgun cannot deal damage and have meager effect on the mysterious plant. If flame grenade cartridges are used, you can deal serious damage to Plant 42. Moreover, allowing its roots to inhale interphyletic weed killer is also an effective attack. According to Sarton’s research, Plant 42 could be especially weak to the science chemical V-JOLT of the UMB series, which can completely drive it to cease activity or sharply decrease its vitality.

                            MONSTER PLANTS
It is said that roots were spread all over and around the dormitory of the Raccoon facility, and researchers who passed by were frequently caught and blood sucking was performed. Research material held many interesting but unconfirmed parts such as the unidentified method of prey recognition and presence or absence of intelligence as a plant-based B.O.W., but unfortunately Plant 42 has been disposed of by S.T.A.R.S.

                            HUNTER
A human-based B.O.W. which saw completion from Clay Virus β II type development. After conception, gene manipulation is performed on a 3-week-old fetus importing the DNA of other creatures using the Clay Virus, and is strengthened. As administration of a growth promoter is repeated, it is modified and the test subject becomes a complete organism following a period of approximately one year.
Although it is fundamentally a human-type creature, muscular power and reflexive speed are equivalent to a large carnivorous animal due to the effects of the Clay Virus. Their bodies have reached a level of perfection as weapons and the thick skin which keratinized covering their entire body has the same level of intensity as that of Kevlar fiber used for bulletproof jackets.
Although intelligence is anthropoid degree, such as orang-utans, they can understand and execute about ten kinds of commands through training. In addition, since it cooperated with other Hunters and hunted in brilliant combination, the name of Hunter was given. Although it is a small number, clone mass-production was carried out before the incident.

                            CHIMERA
As part of the B.O.W. development project, the genetic synthesis of two or more living things was frequently carried out from the middle of the project. By combining the characteristics each individual creature possessed, they succeeded in creating other creatures with superior abilities. Originally, the combination of creatures of different species groups at the gene level was naturally unstable, but they were supported by the Clay Virus which promoted abnormal evolution, enabling higher forms of life and making the achievement of God possible. This Chimera B.O.W. is a product named after the combined creature Chimera, which appears in Greek mythology with the head of a lion, goat and dragon. It was created through the somewhat insane method of copying the gene structure of an insect (in this case, a fly) into the ovum of an artificially inseminated human and allowing it to develop inside the womb of a human female, and making her give birth to it. The developed prototype grew rapidly at almost the same rate as the growth cycle of a fly, and became an adult after eclosion.

                            TYRANT
Although many biological weapon development experiments were conducted in the Raccoon facility, the Tyrant Project, the development of the ultimate B.O.W. utilizing the Clay Virus ε type was considered top secret among them. But because the incident regrettably occurred before the research was complete, the definitive report of the Tyrant Project was not made, leaving only data submitted just before the incident. Although the Clay Virus ε type had the epochal property to instantly evolve a creature it assimilates into, practicality was regarded as questionable in the beginning since creatures administered with it were unable to endure the dramatic physical changes and often died.
As a way out of the dead-end research, they devised a method to use an adult male with physical strength and the resistance of the immune system for the host of the Clay Virus ε type. Healthy prisoners were chosen as the base and body strengthening surgeries were collectively conducted with them. Among the four test subjects, three subjects died, but the surgery of the remaining one succeeded wonderfully and showed favourable progress.

Eww. I can't imagine giving birth to a rotting fly-man hybrid like the Chimera would be a pleasant experience. That shit's even worse than an h-mole.

The bayonet which is attached to the officially adopted M16A2 assault rifle of S.T.A.R.S. A large and strong combat knife which the U.S. Army also employs and can also be used as a wire cutter in combination with a sheath.
Although the knife is not used much in S.T.A.R.S. and it isn't very important equipment, training is often carried out. The M9 is mainly used in survival situations or in jungles and dense forests when firearms cannot be used.
