Capcom CEO Talks About Resident Evil With Nikkei

Capcom CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto was featured in Nikkei BP's ongoing "Keyman" series of video game industry higher-up interviews. You can find the overall coverage at the link below, but here's what is relevant to the RE series.

The other example involves Resident Evil. Said Tsujimoto, "The 3D movie Resident Evil IV Afterlife starring Milla Jovovich is scheduled to hit theaters on September 10. Timed with the movie's release, we'd like to do something to heat up the game series."

Besides... an Afterlife game would just be a copy of RE5 so I doubt it <.<
Maybe he only means that they're releasing a RE game to get the hype up, possibly not movie related.

I don't believe that could be movie related. The movies are something totally different from the game series.

A new RE game to take advantage of the movie's hype is more likely.

As a guess they may do another update to RE5 Mercenaries modes (hopefully Versus also this time) featuring some movie tie-ins.

I wouldn't be overjoyed with Alice as a mercs character but if it gets a update to Versus its an acceptable trade.
