  • Capcom closing Outbreak File 1 & 2 servers

You heard right, following Konami's lead, Capcom has decided to close the Outbreak servers at the end of march. A capcom moderator had this to say on the official boards

Capcom regretfully announces that the server for our Playstation 2 online game Resident Evil Outbreak: File#2 will be closing at the end of March 2007.

Since Resident Evil Outbreak File#2 was released in August 2005 , Capcom has provided a server enabling consumers to experience the online element of this game free of charge.

Regretfully, conditions now dictate that we must close down this server effective from March 31, 2007. Naturally it will still be possible to play the game offline, but the online component will no longer be available.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have been loyal members of the RE Outbreak community for the past months.
You can read more on the official topic here (Best not to go to page 4 or 5, as an angered fan has added porno popups to the pages).

      Most assuredly ;P.

This really bites though, I had anticipated to do 4 player split screen matches with some people for videos but that doesnt look like its going to work now.

Why the hell didnt they introduce lan play :|

Good riddance to that blasphemy, I say.

I love RE, but it's just not that much fun to play online for some reason. In its defense, my opinion was affected in a negative way due to the (seemingly) inability to find anyone on there that knew what the hell they were doing. That's not Capcom's fault.

Now if a File #3 were released, and they implemented RE4-ish gameplay, sign me up.

It was cool seeing the redone RPD, though.

Dot's right about the LAN. A LAN party would be a lot of fun.

Too bad (and no, I'm not being sarcastic). I thoroughly enjoyed the online portion, with or without knowing who I played with.. granted they knew what they were doing. It wasn't hard to find them, Sly.

Time after time, even straight from the team's mouth, LAN was excluded simply because they wanted to create an isolated horror atmosphere with the online game. It worked well for the most part, sans some frustration when you run into idiots who deliberately sabotage the game (hold ammo and run away at boss fights). I can't send the copy protected File 1 save, but if anyone's interested, I can send the File 2 one. End of the Road is a GREAT scenario with a good amount of challenge and branching.

Thanks to Sony's reluctance to release a patch to enable HDD installation for these two games, it doesn't look like I'll be retiring the PS2 anytime soon.

Though unlike others I know, I didn't have online access for the PS2 for a good while so I didn't log a lot of hours into the games.

I've wondered the same myself....an online game without LAN party capability is simply ignorant in every meaning of the word. I would be a fiend if I could have a LAN party of Outbreak with friends.

This news doesn't affect me at all though, really. I got both Outbreaks the days they came out, and can honestly say i've played the scenarios Online only a few times. The 'elitest' chat room composed of pimple-ridden teenagers is enough to make anyone want to vomit, someone ALWAYS chose the character Mark before I had a chance, and overall, unless you're an elitest in the Outbreak community, finding a group to play with is impossible.

The last time I tried to play, I had to reregister because CAPCOM deleted my MarkGrass account and someone else stole it (), so I made an alias "EvilInside" - I spent well over an hour trying to get people to play with me, and finally someone decided they weren't "too good for me" to join my game......n00b! I had to literally carry the player through the entire scenario while fighting off zombies, etc.[/RANT]

            Meh, shit happens.

The group I typically played with were long time RE fans like myself, and aside from one, the rest are a few years older than you (like myself). You just tried the impossible: finding a decent group without looking around first. The "elitest" groups you spoke of were typically all talk, and you were hard pressed to see them actually play the games.

We did arrage the times via MSN first and created a password secured room and kept in touch before boss fights. Sounds like a lot of work, but the games are fun either way.

We haven't played since Sept, and in light of the news, we'll try to play a few games next weekend. If you're interested, let me know. Yes, there is Mark fan.. but there are a few UBCS palette swaps of him with better stats.

Shame, I managed to get online ONCE with File #2, at a time where my internet connection would cut out at any given moment. Suffice to say my primary experience was not great. Now I'm on a 100% more stable connection I was thinking about giving it another shot ... no chance it seems lol.

I may have came off as a bit of an "elitist" myself by not explaining a little more about what I meant about, "the (seemingly) inability to find anyone on there that knew what the hell they were doing". Allow me to clarify.

More often than not (8 out of 10 times), I'd end up with a team of folks that hogged all the ammo/weapons, died in around 2 minutes, or just generally showed no competency whatsoever. I know you say it wasn't hard to find people that took it seriously, Umon, but I seemed to have bad luck almost all the time with that game. I wish I had known you guys back in the day so I could've experienced a more serious game.

Closing server only means that the server is not available for biohazard outbreak to be played on internet, doesn't mean closing file 3 or further, I think u all know eng
