  • Dead (Planet - Lost in) Space 3 is not too far away! :D (early 2013)

Okay, listen up, you primitive screwheads.

Dead Space 3 is right around the corner and it's lookin' fuckin' boss.

    Here's a short list of shit to expect to be going down in the new game;

    1. Enemies shooting back! Gone are the days of only the necromorphs throwing shit at you. This time Isaac's done goofed real good; Others might shoot the shit out of him as well - for throwing his lip like he's known to.

    2. The stick up Isaac's ass is finally gone; Now he can finally take cover when needed and do what other people on frozen planets do; roll like a pro!

    3. Universal ammo types! Gone are the days of every single energy driven weapon having exclusive proprietary battery clips. Having left the comforts of his Apple-esque Star Trek future and ventured into the domain open standards and Android land; some weapons share ammo clips now.

    4. The guy who always tells you how to do your shit in games can finally put his money where his mouth is; There's co-op now. Show that fucker he's nothing but talk and a total burdon on your Clarkin' awesomeness.

    5. Wuzzies can keep their co-op to themselves; The storyline only shoehorns in those co-op extras when someone hits start on controller 2 and that second player jumps in at the next checkpoint/cutscene.

    6. Lost Planet 3 is coming out too, so once you're done with one icy planet, you can go to the real place of frozen, hard nipples; E.D.N. III - in English, motherfucker (unlike that awesomely action-filled mofo E.X. Troopers - which will likely remain a Nipsclusive)

    Trailers?
Lots of them! Google and YouTube's only been around since you were born, you should know how to use them by now, fuckballs!

I haven't seen anything since the initial trailer - has the bro-tasticness been toned down any? I just remember the awful banter between Isaac and the new guy being exceptionally out of place for Dead Space, especially when a drill is going ballistic and a bunch of Necromorphs are trying to rip your frosty nipples off.

Beats me! Latest trailer has Isaac telling some dude to get his filthy fucking hands off him.

Isaac was a quiet, scared, and confused man in Dead Space 1.
Isaac was an angry, pissed off, and fed up man in Dead Space 2.
Isaac feeds on "Another day, another prick" rage in Dead Space 3.

Bet Dead Space 3 will end with the scene from the DLC ending in Asura's Wrath.

      --------------------------------------------

People need to back off a little when it comes to judging things based on trailers in gaming marketing these days. Especially the "fans" of stuff. Always jumping the gun faster than anyone else out there, putting even Lucky Luke's trigger finger to shame. They need to realize that they should already be roped in and good to go on the supportive role of the production. Them, as consumers, are a non-issue for studios with track records like the Dead Space developer. These trailers aren't for them. They're to rope in all the non-believers and those who maybe never played Dead Space, or -even worse- absolutely hated Dead Space 1-2.

Change is necessary, evolution is good, and ensuring that things stay fresh/captures new audience is ALWAYS a good thing (unless you're one of those hipster dipshits who somehow always liked Dead Space before it was cool - yet has his/her first Achievement/Trophy unlocked the day after yesterday - you guys suck, masturbate to weird stuff, and are making gaming look bad)

I think Dead Space needed a breath of fresh air but I don't think what it seems they're doing with DS3 to be the right path. It's pretty hard to inovate on a horror game because the mechanics stagnate pretty fast, you get used with the enemies, controls and atmosphere, but certanly having the game become a shoot out is not a great way of turning it into a new horror gaming experience. Inovation and bringing new people to the franchise is good, yes, but not at the cost of alienating the people who liked the other games.

That said, the ice planet looks interesting and I think Visceral has the chance of making awesome scary levels on it.

          The co-op stuff look awesome.

Dunno if you guys have seen it yet or not,
          Spoiler:

Too bad they've kinda already started showing some of that stuff, as it's the kind of stuff that'd be neat if they could've kept under wraps ... but, sadly, in this day and age; you gotta show all the explosions in the trailers :/

It's pretty simple for me - the first two games were as action as I like it. I don't want the Brotastic Adventures of Isaac and friends, and since I have a very limited amount of cash, I'm not going to waste it buying the game new if that's what it looks like. I'm not entirely comfortably with them adding all the extra action stuff - shooting bad guys, cover mechanics, etc. I don't own Gears of War or Lost Planet for a reason. If it's lost the atmosphere as well, then I'll pick it up cheap and second hand. Same as RE6...which still isn't cheap enough for me to bother with (Or ORC, which never will be). And all I have to go by at the moment is trailers, so I'm not gonna waste cash on a game I might like.

Trying new things as fine...so long as you don't get rid of all the old things too.

Problem with "keeping the old things" is that sooner or later you reach a point where there's not room for both - at least not if you're trying to reach out to anyone but the most hardcore of the hardcore of the fans for the previous release.

Anyway, the whole "brotastic" stuff is only the co-op tweak the game receives (on the fly <3) when a second player jumps in. There's no Brosifer and Friends unless you let a second player join your game.

People shooting at Clarke? Bound to happen. Shit would've quickly gotten stale if it was just new setting and more necromorphs w/same attacks as before. People always seem to want to explore "more" of a universe, but never face the changes/challenges that actually requires.
More agile Clarke and cover mechanics? Does allow for smoothing out a few things and making sure encounters look less like robot wars and, apparently, it's mainly just a set of contextual animations that makes stuff like standing behind a piller look like someone standing behind a pillar -- and not like some asshole gazing intently into the compression garbage on the wall textures. Context sensitive animations is pure love on the technical front and underused in games that aren't sports games.

Games are far too often subjected to the "judging a book by their cover" treatment.

Co-op here and co-op there, you can't possibly create a horror atmospheric game with two players hanging around, co-op gameplay belongs to action shooter genre not survival horror, they need to draw that line clear or it will Meet the same tragic fate as RE6 !

I wonder what kind of dudebro atmosphere people have when they co-op their games...

Señor Pantalones (pardon ... donde es tu pantalones?) disagrees with anyone who says co-op can't be as scary as Hell on Earth!

Think you missed an odd reference in my post there ;D
Señor Pantalones is a reference to some of the gaming sessions we had during the podcast days on THIA - and that is my final answer on that matte. Some other involved party might want to shed some light on whether or not that wasn't one of the most terrifying moments ever (easily followed by "'Sup bitches, am I late to the Piano Lesson?" in the same game's co-op enabled DLC) - Easily rivals catapulting a dog through the window ... and they were both co-op

                        - Obscure
                        - Obscure: The Aftermath
                        - Cry of Fear (especially this one!)
                        - Killing Floor

All pretty scary. The first three for the atmosphere, the fourth for the ease of being overwhelmed.

Even though Dead Space and Dead Space 2 are probably some of my favorite games this gen, I'm not quite sure how I feel about 3 yet. I'm glad that the co-op is optional but there's a lot of things that are just... meh to me? Nothing they're adding really excites me anyway... Except for the make your own weapons, that's kinda neat actually...

I'll still most likely be picking it up on release day but I feel this might be the weakest of the 3... Least to me anyway.
