Metal Gear Solid 4 was already a bastardization of well established characters. Why should this be any different?

The plot and its place in the canon is uncertain at this time. I know they've distanced themselves from the timeline by re-writing the story to take place after MGS4 as opposed to trying to fit it in between MGS2 and MGS4. But that's it so far as the aspects of the plot and characters are still under wraps. So it's hard to say Rising is horrible based on its place in the canon when nothing about the trailer gives the impression that the canon could or could not suffer from it.

He was never heavily involved as he was with Peace Walker since the latter was under his direction. If you watch the "Truth behind Rising" documentary I included it goes to say where Kojima stands on the game when it was in the hands of KP, and why he gave it to Platinum Games.

From my point of view, unless Kojima is directing then the rest of the team seems lost without him. It's why he keeps coming back to direct a main sequel despite wanting to work on other projects. This has been a running routine since MGS3. Platinum Games have shown that they make quality action games so a Metal Gear spin off featuring a cyborg ninja like Raiden seems right up their alley based on the established world of MGS. People have a preference with how the early builds of Rising looked at KP. They wanted to make this a launch title with the FOX engine they've been working on. However, now that Platinum has it the game will run on their engine which was used for Bayonetta and Vanquish. And instead of the game running at 30 fps as it would from KP's build, Platinum are going to run the game at 60 fps going full on with the action.

About the only concerns or skepticism I have is with the PC version which was missing from the latest trailer. I don't know if that will be cancelled now that Platinum is making the game.

Game looks fun. Will rent, and perhaps buy if it actually handles well.

It already fucks up the ending for Raiden in MGS4.

Seriously his ending was great, he fought the great fight, survived, got back with Rosemary and meet his son. He promised them he will always be with them, never leaving them alone, to stop running.

Now what do we get in Rising?

LOOKS LIKE ITS TIME FOR JACK TO LET IT RIP!!!

                Sorry but NO.. Fuck that.

The game could've worked between MGS2 and MGS4, I'm begging god this shit isn't canon. I really am.

Actually once Bayonetta hit the bargain bins (which was fast) it got pretty decent sales. Vanquish hit bargain bin and still did badly.

Because they both flashy but mediocre games.

The series was going to continue regardless of MGS4 being Solid Snake's supposed final adventure. Also Kojima hints repeatedly that there's a reason Raiden is the way he is in Rising. We don't know yet. But he seems more "Jack the Ripper" out to "have some fun". He's not and never will be as he was in MGS2. What he ended with changed drastically in MGS4 and that pattern will supposedly shape him once more in the spin off.

Frankly, Raiden had no reason to be in MGS4, Kojima gave him a perfectly good ending in MGS2.

Kojima revealed that he is "Dark Raiden", but obviously didn't specify why that's the case.

Guessing from KojiPro's ability to tack on all sorts of things to the canon and the fact they've anchored those crazy videos into both Raiden's past via both his new body and previously as a child solider, and even roped in John Cygan to be Solidus Snake again, I'm guessing it's supposed to be canon (even if that upsets almost everyone). Guess we'll find out soon enough.

It looks retarded. But so was every game they made after MGS3 so whatever, it doesn't matter any more.
