c'mon, say what you will about the story but you can't deny the games had quality.

MGS4 was complete and utter shit. A terrible game, a terrible story. Its only noteworthy feature was its ridiculous production values that could've gone toward something you could actually play for at least half the time the goddamn system is on.

I say that as a massive fan of MG, MG2, MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3, and even the Ac!d games and Ghost Babel. While I wouldn't say Revengeance is a step in the "right" direction, it's certainly a good step in the direction MGS4 suddenly took the series.

This. At least this is a fun looking action game instead of pretending to be a decent follow up the the older games.

          Thoughts on Revengeance;

-Raiden's actor sounds like he's holding his nose whilst trying to immitate Hayter.
-Camera is absolutely atrocious at times.
-Although the tutorial explains the basics, other acquired skills are poorly explained/demonstrated (if there are extra tutorials in the UNLOCKABLE/SECRET VR missions, then that's even more stupid)
-Good game, but I think DmC's way better in so many ways.

(Can't wait for Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2, though. My WiiU is ready.)

As far as I'm concerned, MSG1 and Ghost Babel are the best out of the whole series. Mhmm Ghost Babel, I completed that game all the way to 100% xD

I enjoyed MGS4 but it's not a great game. It introduces more plot holes than it solves and the story is kinda idiotic at times. Snake take this and crawl through the microwave passage, great now I'll follow you and upload the virus once we get there. Seriously? That's a worthless scene. If the MkII could go through the microwave passage fine, then why did snake have to go through it? How did vamp survive from MGS2 when he fell into that liquid on the Big Shell? Too many retcons and plot holes, and some of the things that happen don't make sense. In MGS2, Sunny was a boy, but now in MGS4 Sunny is a girl. Well in this case it was a translation error but still.

It does have great production values though. If you skip all the cutscenes, you can beat it in about 2 hours, so it's rather short.

Even from a gameplay POV MGS4 was utter crap, the first two Acts are passable, but Act 3 was awful, Act 4 poor and relying on fan wank and Act 5 lastest all of 2 minutes not-a boss battle or microwave.

So you're saying it's Metal Gear, business as usual

Whilst I thought the first half of the game was great it quickly went down hill and the final boss... well. I'd sooner fight Simmons a thousand times over than fight him again. Awful in concept and execution.

I play a lot of these style of games as well and I can say without a doubt that it's a strong contender for worst camera for this particular genre that I can remember. For a game so based around a parrying system that is directional, the fact that the camera is literally all the place doesn't always make it the smoothest of experiences.

I was really positive playing through it to begin with, but now I've finished it I'm in no rush to play it again. The story didn't do anything for me really at all, and Armstrong is *such* an awful character the though of having to sit through his shit again is mind numbing, I find him just about the worst character in the entirety of the Metal Gear Saga.

I personally think so yeah. It's over long, with totally over blown dialogue and just an awful character in concept. Just awful.

Think Simmons, and multiply him by a factor of 10. And I'd still sooner fight Simmons again. I really hated it. The second half of the game was such a colossal disappointment for me, and I *love* the Metal Gear universe.

I've played most of the games through the years, MG, MG2, MGS, VR, Ghost Babel, MGS2, MGS3, Peace Walker, etc etc..

I'm really not sure on this one though. When I read things like opinions and reviews here, I don't just think of a bunch of guys whining, I take most opinions from people here seriously. I never got to play MGS4, and judging from the things here the game was radically different. Because I missed 4, should I even bother looking into Revengeance? I know it sounds silly as you don't necessarily have to play every single entry in a series to enjoy a game, but like others here I'm hardcore on the older entries and I like to find out "what happened to "x" next"

Also is this canon or is that not confirmed yet?

Sadly it is canon, I suggest you play 4 first.
