Capcom asking the fans about an REmake 2

I figured the general idea was that most fans wanted RE2 to receive the same treatment as the first game did with REmake, as opposed to just a straight remake.

Sure, DSC expanded some things, which was nice - but a lot of other things it just plain cut short.
Iron's and his story was all but reduced to one cutscene (although we did see what he does in his spare time directly)
Ada was turned into her usual (modern) RE4 spy crappy self - using toys and gadgets (rocket propelled lipstick?! Please)
I prefered it when you never knew what she was thinking, she seemed and acted like a civilian.. no silly weapons gear (she never had any in RE2, yet in DSC, she wears her RE4 attire which contains bullet straps on her arms and stuff... just, no)
As much as I missed Annette being snappy and deluded with rage against Umbrella - I felt touched by the way they handled her caring for William (it was a little overdone, but hey) and her dying scene where she talks about Sherry...
Capcom seriously need to stick to the original though - no OTT Ada the superspy, Annette maybe needs to have her feisty attitude back, giving her reasons of course depending on the character she talks to (as in RE2)..

Remake2 on the other hand will be nestled right in the center of a very convoluted Raccoon City timeline so it would be extremely easy for them to fuck up if they are not careful. Length-wise LeonAB/ClaireAB will not cut it these days so they're going to have to add a lot more than Remake did anyway. Add to that the original RE2 Dev team being long gone and the fact that this will probably be made by the RE6 team means there is plenty of reason to be apprehensive.
Memories of a Lost City was pretty bad and evidence enough that Capcom these days have little respect or understanding for the plot of their own game.

The Facebook feedback alone is proof not even the fan base has a consistant idea about what constitutes the ideal remake so how can we expect capcom to?

Any additions or changes they make without careful consideration could risk further fracturing RE3 and the Outbreak games, potentially making many elements simply not fit at all. It's a very slippery slope they are walking.
The Racoon City timeline is still standing in one piece, but it's been cheaply redone one too many times for my taste. Like I said all I want is good gameplay, if the canon get's screwed up a little the still-enjoyable original will always be there. I want the experience for this remake to feel as new as possible without stepping too far obviously, because the chances of RE7 or 8 having classic gameplay are as slim as it gets and I don't want this remake to be an exact carbon copy with HD graphics.

Capcom has already shat countless times on the Racoon City timeline I really don't see it as being sacred anymore. Like others have said, I'm all for a true survival-horror gameplay experience now, even if it means screwing with the canon.
I really think people need to start preparing themselves, because it is a given that Capcom WILL make changes to this game, good or bad whether it be for the gameplay or story. I've already accepted that the story will change to some degree, and the slight possibility that there will be a 3rd person mode to appeal to the newer fans
All I hope for is that it will feel like a actual classic survival-horror game. That's it.

I'd have no issue with Crimsons being in Raccoon City so long as there is a viable explanation. Have them escape from a lab or something.
I semi-agree with your thoughts on the Licker, although their overuse is nothing when compared to the Hunter. Remember how terrifying they were in the original game and compare them now to the likes of Revelations where you gun them down by the dozen-load without breaking sweat.

Hunters in 1 were akin to CH in remake-- not many, but frightening when they appeared. I can only assume they would implement the licker again for 2make, and instead of adding even more, they should just focus on making them more intelligent/better A.I. and therefore becoming more of a threat.
Should they in any possible way lean towards somehow merging 2 and 3, in one game...perhaps the CH's could make more of a presence in Jill's game than Leon/Claire's.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm actually a little sick of Lickers at this point. They made their come back in RE5 which was cool even though they were a bulky fat variation. Then again in DSC which was nice, and then again in ORC. I just don't feel the Licker has the same hype value anymore because it's already been seen so many times with 3 different variations. Adding Crimsons into the Licker mutation process would be innovating and would give it the freshness it needs. Lickers are sparse in the RPD anyway and are more encountered underground, Crimsons would be perfect for making the beginning of the game more challenging.
