I still wish we could play Versus in split-screen. I love this mode to an incredible degree, but I think it'd be fantastic to play a 1-on-1 match with some of my real life friends. Especially Survivors! When someone is physically with you, Mercenaries is 10x more exciting.

Enlighten me, since when did Mercs get a bad review? and Mercs is not a downloadable content mind you.Originally posted by Stars1356 View PostConsidering I don't play Mercenaries that much and many gave it a bad review, I never downloaded this. I might consider getting this since I am getting all the other DLC but will wait and see if more people are online playing.

haha brilliant, i love you! Have been saying that all along!Originally posted by Gradon View PostSpeaking of Versus...look what I found in my RE5...

Seems like all the Versus crap was already on the disk, so Capcom, it was an unlock code? lol.
I especially loved the comeback "It's the wrong size for an unlock key!"

Welcome to Resident Evil 5 pre-launch?
It was already known that Versus (partly) existed within the game.
Also, the Versus DLC pack is the wrong size for an unlock key ;)
(Versus DLC is nearly 2mb, most DLC keys are just 108kb.)
The package for it contains (presumably) the final code for both general functionality and the 4 player netcode.
I mean, seriously, did anyone expect the package for it to be gigantic? Just look at the size differences between the EXTRA FIGURES DLC and COSTUME PACK 1 and try to explain that without getting technical. And if you're able to explain that size difference, understanding why Versus is only a 2mb download shouldn't exactly be difficult either.

And what's to companies attaching some filler data to the file? Come on now.Originally posted by Carnivol View PostAlso, the Versus DLC pack is the wrong size for an unlock key ;)

The chances are the things you're suggesting would still take up more than much more than 2mb!

I've yet to see anyone pack in "filler data" on a digital archive. And since MS pays the bandwidth on LIVE... do the math.Originally posted by Stu View PostAnd what's to companies attaching some filler data to the file? Come on now.
No. Not unless it was coded entirely by idiots. Last time I checked, MT Framework was certainly not coded by idiots. There's nothing in this world that should make current gen assets for general spawn point data, enemy layouts, menu logic and an alteration to current netcode to better handle 4 players take more space than 2mb. Only thing would be if they threw in a totn of new graphics, but even the menu graphics for Versus are pretty plain and recycle a lot of already present assets from the main game.Originally posted by Stu View PostThe chances are the things you're suggesting would still take up more than much more than 2mb!
Random fact; the Versus DLC pack is barely smaller than all of the game code for all 4 PlayStation era Resident Evil games combined. Not excluding duplicate assets. (Ddd a basic compression on the main exes from each PS1 era RE game and the archive will be much smaller than the one for Versus.) Still so hard to believe 2mb isn't enough for what's most likely just an updated netcode, some game logic and layout data?

Where does who pays the bandwidth come into this? It's not as if either company is short of the pennies. Either way, because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it hasn't happened.Originally posted by Carnivol View PostI've yet to see anyone pack in "filler data" on a digital archive. Are we REALLY going to start comparing game coding from the PS1 to game coding on the 360? The complexities of modern gaming wouldn't even be remotely comparable surely?Originally posted by Carnivol View PostStill so hard to believe 2mb isn't enough for what's most likely just an updated netcode, some game logic and layout data?

I just find stupidity caused by misinformation incredibly annoying. Especially when people almost seem to put on an effort to make sure the legends live on. The headlines various sites had for Versus was just facepalm worthy and I'd love for the world to just face the fact that Versus, no matter how you twist and turn it, was not "complete" by the time Resident Evil 5 shipped.
Could they have released it as a free piece of DLC instead of pay content? Sure.
But was it just a padded unlock key? Absolutely not.

That's the thing though, i'm asking questions. I'm questioning what's being put in front of me, i'm not rubbishing it in the slightest. Just that to me, PS1 coding and 360/PS3 coding can't possibly be comparable. I wouldn't be saying "surely?" if i was convinced of my own opinions.
I honestly just can't imagine the code for an entire game mode (with all it's different complexities) could fit into 2mb, that's all.

I wasn't talking about Mercs, just the versus mode. Sorry for the confusion but thought since this is the versus thread, everyone would know what I mean. As far as versus getting a bad review, I remember either gametrailers or Ign giving it a bad review but not sure. Only remember that it was a video review and will try to find it. I like Mercs and the reason I didn't get versus because of some of the reviews I read and what some people on the forum said about it. There are a few that do like it but it wasn't enough for me to get it.Originally posted by A.K.47 View PostEnlighten me, since when did Mercs get a bad review? and Mercs is not a downloadable content mind you.
