Got the special edition a couple days ago. Perhaps a few tiny spoiler things in my post, so fore-warning. I've yet to play online, but i've played through the campaign about 4 times now and it's a lot of fun. This game has been a pleasant surprise for me. The game has a great atmosphere to me, more specifically the score -- levels 5 & 7 in particular ( I think it was 7) give off a serious Dawn of the dead (the beginning of the movie with the creepy house shootout) and even RE 1.5 for some reason.

Sure the single player campaign could've used a few more levels, but what's there is re-playable -- I like getting more xp to buy new guns and abilities. There's not much else I can really be disappointed about aside from the flamethrower can't be purchased in the shop that I know of, I wanted more cerberus' (I wanted packs of them coming all at once, and to see them eating corpses), and the sniper rifle doesn't seem to be able to zoom in/out.

And the Spec Ops characters are off-putting to me. They appear to be anything but professionals. And their characters designs are cheese, like they were originally intended to be scrapped in favor of Wolf pack in the actual game but then thrown online for $-grabbing dlc. And why does Jill look so greasy in this? Hahaha she looks like she hasn't bathed in a long time.

From reading about the game pre-patch, it does sound really bad.. but having only having played the game post-patch, I encountered very few issues so i'd say the patch probably did a lot of good. Probably my favorite character is Spectre and weapon is the Arbiter or Riot gun (depending on mission).

The metal case and patches are really nice, too. I've been with the RE series since the original game was released, and i'm really enjoying this one. Perhaps i'm a walking contradiction, like those Starburst commercials? But then again I gotta say this game is probably better to me than RE4, and so many people seem to love that one for some reason. Apples and oranges I say.

Thanks to you guys for your input, i'm glad I got this. It'd be nice to have this game for 3DS, similar to the Mercenaries treatment.

I'm considering buying this game. I know many fans are disappointed with this game but after doing research and watching videos (and also with the new patch out now that fixes several issues), I have a pretty good idea as to what to expect -- a Resident evil-themed TPS, nothing more nothing less, correct?

With that, my question is for people who like this game.. is buying the special edition worth the $45 - $50? The artwork looks a heck of a lot better than the normal retail version. I mostly play single-player and occasional multi.. is the campaign worth it?

i highly suggest you to rent this game. or borrow with a friend. or forget it, this ps2-like game's already past.

I should point out as I have done in this thread before, even though the game is not deserving of the hate some people give it and can be really fun and enjoyable in parts...it isn't worth full price. More than bargain bin price though.

Yeah I actually agree with that to be honest. Years ago if a Tyrant or something was in the way - you'd never attempt to go near it - because it can kill you, or put yourself into a situation where it can potentially be close enough to hurt you. You always maintained distance and safety - yet I think modern mechanics on games gives us the belief that we can rush a Tyrant and get past because in a modern game we should be able to.

A single Tyrant cannot stun lock you until you die under normal circumstances I'm pretty sure (and this is from a -lot- of hours playing and it never happening), it takes multiple Tyrants to do that and even then they need get you into a corner, and if if multiple Tyrants are beating down on you then you probably should die, they are Tyrants. Of course teammates can free you from this unless they get downed, the one exception to the stunlock thing is a small office in campaign, technically the Tyrant could block your exit and the office is literally big enough for 3 people to fit it, but you gotta be stupid to walk into it with him near you, and he would need to never go after another teammate and stay fixed on you.

I've never experienced Tyrants doing nothing also, they are very aggressive. Blood is red, though like real blood if you look at it in darkness it isn't gonna be a bright glowing red, it will look dark.

Hahaha thanks, I like your bluntness about that. That bad huh? Do the Lickers still get "stuck" and don't move? I remember seeing that in a pre-release gameplay vid and I figured all this kinda AI nonsense would've been fixed before release. The blood thing has me curious now. I'll see if I can look at some more videos for the blood effects.

Are enemies better now? I've read that some enemies like tyrant or Mr. X just kinda... stand around and aren't very aggressive.. has that been fixed? Another person complained about "black" blood on Amazon, like the game is censored or something. Whats up with that -- is this true or is his tv just effed up?

Tyrants are either retarded or, if they knock you down, they will repeat the same attack until you are dead, and you are unable to get up. And that is true, the blood is just really bad in the game. Like goo. "Changes" color depending on the lighting.

Thanks guys, i'm leaning towards buying now after watching some more videos and your comments -- if I can find a copy at the right price. Yes, the case is cool & patches don't look too cheap. I saw a video of the alt. costumes and they look kinda awful though (lazy swaps). Although the red one is kinda cool.

How much did the recent update fix the game? Are enemies better now? I've read that some enemies like tyrant or Mr. X just kinda... stand around and aren't very aggressive.. has that been fixed? Another person complained about "black" blood on Amazon, like the game is censored or something. Whats up with that -- is this true or is his tv just effed up?

If I do end up with this game and like it, would you say that the 6 dlc Spec ops missions are worth buying for $20?

Special Edition depends, the patches are nice for collectors sake as is the steelbook case. The DLC weapons aren't anything special and the alt costumes are just colour swaps. For the difference in price (at release anyway, unsure of any price changes in US) between standard game and special edition for sure it is worth it if you like the content, the steelbook alone was enough for me.

The campaign as a solo experience is pretty weak, but playing it with other people as intended is much more fun though the story will forever main very weak, the competitive multiplayer is where the game shines best and where the bulk of the community is. Very few games where two teams battle it out among NPC monsters trying to kill both teams.

Despite enjoying it in my limited time with the game, I don't see any way to justify spending $50 on this game. Once it drops down to around $20 is when I plan on actually buying it.
