Its not wise to ask of others' opinion on these kind of things.

What matters is what system is right for you. Do you want a better online experience with a small chance of RRoD, or do you want slightly prettier games with the god-awful sixaxis gimmick.

      The PS3 is sexier

This is a safe for work board. I'd rather you didn't post porn where its viewable without a warning.

I've run my 360 for days at a time while playing in online games and I had time off. I would literally turn it on in the morning, play some games, watch a movie, play some more games, watch another movie or perhaps play a XBLA game, go back to playing a game, and sometimes I would fall asleep and it's been left on and I've had no problems at all with the console.

Sensing a bit of irony that doesn't need to be pointed out.

            ;)

            But yeah.

My 360 is in a weird place. Its in my room atm but my house has electrical problems so I cant leave it plugged in or on for very long. If I moved it into the living room it wouldn't get any attention however.

If L4D was coming out on the PS3 I would get a PS3. I want to play online but my computer will have to gimp the visuals. But I don't want to pay for Xbox Live and I cant run a cable to my console. But then again It will have splitscreen so I can play with my friends.

The 360 and Wii are right for me.

I have my 360 on a stand/cooler that I bought with the console. I've had my 360 for a little almost over 3 years now I'd say and its still kicking with no problems whatsoever! And its not like I don't play it, cause I do.... Alot!

Personally, I'd say look at the exclusives and decide which ones you like more. For example, if your more of a Gears person, I'd recommend 360, if your more of a Resistance person, then PS3 is for you. Both have their own fair share of exclusives but for me anyways, 360 is the way to go. But its up to you.

Just to note Sony are reintroducing the 80GB model in September for America and 27th August 2008 for Europe without PS2 backwards compatibility, Flash card readers or SACD support.
If he had a brain, he'd be dangerous.

It's not a re-introduction of the current 80GB SKU, it's a mere replacement for the 40GB SKU at the same price. It's essentially a HDD swap.

EDIT: Heh, I didn't realize that 40GB units lacked SACD playback. Then again, PS2 BC aside, the majority aren't missing the other features.

I crave backwards compatibility so damn much.

Something else you might want to consider, though it may become a moot point at some time in the future, are exclusives. Which console has the library to suit you? While there are games on both platforms, there are some exclusives which can help to influence a decision. For example, I know that quite a few people out there were convinced by Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. I'm a PS3 owner myself, and from my own experience I can tell you that it's something of a wise investment in terms of gaming. It's more expensive than the 360, but you're also getting a Blu-ray player, free online gaming and built-in wireless capability.

At present, the 360 is the more popular console - thanks in part to the affordability and Sony's blunders during the course of the PS3's launch. Microsoft seem to have a much better marketing strategy with their console, while Sony have been making outrageous promises and failing to live up to them. They've improved things this year, the "level of competence has risen", so it's just a matter of them sorting their shit out and getting things together. Despite that, I enjoy playing on my PS3. It's a solid "console".

On that note, one important thing to address is that you shouldn't refer to them as "games consoles", we're in an age of "home entertainment systems" now. Where a platform can do a while lot more than just play video games. You can browse the internet, watch films, listen to music, etc. Going back to the games aspect, which is the most important aspect to most of us, it all depends on what interests you. The 360 has Gears of War (and the upcoming sequel), Too Human, Mass Effect, Fable 2, etc. The PS3 has Killzone 2, Resistance 2, SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, MGS4, etc. Part of it comes down to what you would like to play.

Think as a gamer, not a fanboy.

I wouldn't recommend the Wii though, a friend and I each owned one in the past and we both eventually traded them in. The range of games they offered were either first-party reiterations of the same franchise, or third-party shovelware, or PS2 titles with Wii gameplay mechanics tacked on, etc. The concept behind swinging a remote control around may seem innovative, but it just wasn't the kind of thing to interest me. Might be worth pointing out that I've never been keen on Nintendo, the first Nintendo console I owned was the Gamecube, and only then that was because of REmake and RE0 - and to a lesser degree, MGS: The Twin Snakes. But again, I digress.

And I've just forgotten whatever the fuck it was I was talking about. I need a drink.

                        Xbox 360 Pros:
                        • The price is 323,75$ cheaper where I live.
                        • It's got way more great titles.
                        • It's got way more great exclusive titles.
                        • It's got great online features via Xbox Live.
                        • All games that have been released for both consoles so far have been better on the Xbox 360, strangely.
                        • Highly customizable, the entire chassi can be changed and new faceplates or controls can be bought.
                        • Xbox Live is free.

                        Xbox 360 Cons:
                        • All consoles made before last winter have about a 1/7 chance of getting RLOD. When it does you'll have to send it in and wait a few weeks to a month for it to come back. All Live time will be replaced and you may get conpensation for the time they repaired it.
                        • There is a quite rare problem where the Xbox 360 scrathes discs. If it does, just send it in and you'll get a new Xbox and can have all your scratched games replaced for free.
                        • In order to get DLC earlier and to play online you need Xbox Live Gold, which costs a small fee. You can buy three months, six months or twelve months XBLG time.

That guy who said the Xbox heats up or whatever was plainly lying. My record is probably with GTA4, which I played 12 and a half hour in one go. No problems at all.

                          No it isn't.

Well, you can't play online with purchasing an upgrade.

Xbox Live is free, as I said. It's called Xbox Live Silver more specifically.
It allows downloading everything a Gold member can (though in rare cases a few days later) and fully interacting with people using chatting and all such.
The only thing you don't get is multiplaying. But the Xbox 360 has made quite a rep for having great online games, so it's completely worth it.
It costs about the price of a new videogame for an entire year, besides.

Not really. I don't play very much online anymore, but I always download the latest trailers and demoes.
