Well I plan to get the first game first since I never got a chance to play it. Everyone I know that played the game tells me its good, and I just loved Knights of the Old Republic and knowing that Bioware (the developer) makes this game I definitely need to pick it up. Always wanted to play a game where you take command of a space ship, I'm an obvious space nerd LOL!!

There is no reason for anyone to ever miss out on playing a Bioware game. I remember I went into Mass Effect blind, I was anticipating it for a long time and decided to cloud myself from reviews, previews, spoilers, etc and just play the game. One of the greatest gaming experiences of my life. I have ME2 sitting on my table upopened because my backlog of what to play is so big right now.

They were a victim of praising Mass Effect 1's story as the best in this generation yet. I am sure the story is the same quality, or even higher, like with the game.Last edited by Zombie Fred; 01-10-2010, 01:15 PM.

ME1's story was only as good as the time you were willing to invest in it, I found it very interesting however I knew friends who breezed through the main story missions and found it lackluster as they didn't go through the effort of talking to your teammates, doing sidequests and listening to incidental dialogue when it came up during the game.
I assume ME2's is just the same, I can imagine that having to link everything from ME1 to ME2, then have to lay seeds for ME3 it might seem lacking in some areas but im sure when combined with ME3 when its out it'll all work out.

Lots of info/impressions. Some things that stood out to me:
- More planets to visit and each has a purpose and backstory, more like main quest levels. Excellent.
- Combat feels more like Gears of War or Uncharted.
- Run out of ammo (i.e. heatsinks) for a particular gun, it auto-switches to one which you have ammo for.
- Playing as an infiltrator, sniper rifle ammo seemed limited.
- No control over squadmates' armor, they upgrade themselvs as they level up.
- New weapons/upgrades are found as blueprints, need to be researched.
- Enemy kills DO grant you XP, but it only gets tallied up at the end of a mission, and you don't level up during a mission anymore. This was done "as to not distract the player during a mission".
- There's some kind of biotic ammo.
