Man I just wish Hideki Kamiya would come back to the series or make a new horror game as well. Mikami and Inafune's games are okay too but Kamiya was the one who directed RE2 (imo) i.e. the best RE game ever, so why not let him have another shot at the horror genre? I mean the last RE game he worked on was Re0, and I think that was mainly just on pre-gamecube work. Maybe him creating the Devil May Cry series (off of RE4) is what led him to go off the beaten horror path and more into the action style driven games (sans Okami). Kind of off topic with this but I wish we had another Viewtiful Joe game from him too .

I think it's been confirmed that the game will be purely single player although don't hold me to that because I don't remember where exactly I read it.

Not seeing anything that interests me so far. Everything I've read or saw reminded me of RE4, which I like but if I want to play RE4 I just play RE4.

It's all very promising, time will tell. Unlike everything else lately which has been all about "wider audience" translating into "bigger trainwreck"

    PCGames.de Preview Details

Highly reduced HUD; there are almost no interface elements
    - Ring menu for weapons and inventory
    - Quick item selection on the D-Pad
    - Medipacks
    - You'll encounter a man with a chainsaw and dozens of angry enemies at the beginning, just like in RE4 - but it plays differently due the set of options like being able to set traps etc.
    - One trap is a mine full of nails
    - There isn't much music which is why the game feels even more terrifying

Yeah. The "one size fits all" treatment of the decapitations and such in RE5-6 loses a bit of the "magic" of the RE4 decapitations.

First run in with the chainsaw ganado in RE4 was a moment of "Oh fuck!" and not everyone even lost their head to him, but when/if it happened, he took it clean, no pausing to give a dodge chance or anything. He just swooped in and took your head off like a knife through butter. It's still quite shocking and disturbing, to be honest. Not a single ounce of cool is enough to stop that chainsaw.

Also, the problem with gore and torture porn like Saw is that you need to present it as something believable for it to have an effect. You need to be able to connect with the people and "feel" their pain for it to work, or else it just ends up being silly (or revealing of your own unempathic tendencies )

    Sounds good to me.

The Ganados in RE4 were way more creepy than any of the enemies in 5 and 6.......and I think this game will put the 'fear' back into the chainsaw, assuming we will see the bloody decapitations.......Capcom's repeated use of it and their stupid censor policy has given the chainsaw a bad name.

From what they say, the game is obviously a mix between psychological horror and RE-like horror. "RE4 meets Silent Hill" is perhaps the best summary for that game.

I'm really excited about it, but I want to see some gameplay!

New article about the game came out today at IGN

    The Evil Within First Look

It includes an interview and impressions of a demo.

“Obviously I like horror,” he muses. “But survival horror has been drifting away from what makes it survival horror. And so I want to bring it back. Bring back survival horror to where it was.”

My own impressions... I don't find gory shit scary at all (I find the Saw movies funny instead of scary). But I hope that's not all there is to this game. I see a lot of RE4 influences. There is even a dude with a chainsaw and the enemies (regular ones) are kind of like Ganados.

'Franchise' might be a strong word. This game needs to be good before it's likely to get any sequels. I'm a lot more confident in Bethesda making a decent game than I am Mikami - the last game I played of his was, after all, Resident Evil 4 - Now With 100% More Midget Robots.

I was reading the posts on the previous pages on what Mikami should be credited for.and you know what. WHO CARES????? Thats irrelvent now.The fact is he and the original RE Team created it.Period. What we should be focusing on now is Evil With In, which is Mikami's new "Resident Evil" Franchise.

    Then it's all fine.

But you made it seem like Mikami did nothing for the success of RE1.

Obviously, Mikami god status among RE is exaggerated, but he clearly has a great vision regarding videogames.

    he didn't create anything specifically
Thank you for proving my point. Very few know what he actually did. Off the top of my head, he did direct the opening and ending movies (making two of his planners angry in the process) and decided on the herbs.

Everything else you just said has nothing to do with what I was implying. He's a great director with a great vision who deserves every ounce of respect he has from fans and those who've worked with him and the series wouldn't have been such a success without him. My point was that he is often credited for specific things he didn't do, it's as simple as that. I was not referring to the game's success. Only that it was Fujiwara who devised the project.
