Having given ten infraction points to the worst offenders in the thread, I'm going to unlock it, with the theory that people here are adult enough to discuss complex political situations while managing enough empathy for those who disagree to not resort to any more of the less pleasant remarks and actions.
And yes, by the rules most of the people who got an infraction earned more. I'm choosing to assume that with such a heated topic they lost control of themselves for a moment, and hopefully now regret those actions. Or can at least not repeat them.
If there are more issues I'll be happy to go back over the person's posts and find each infraction worth offence for the next time.
Do not proove my assumption that most of you are adults and can control your tempers wrong, please people.

This isn't simply America celebrating bin Laden's death. Many Western countries are celebrating what they believe is a success in the 'war on terror' in which people do such terrible acts on people simply because they have ideas...oh...such as freedom of speech and quality for women. As I said before...this wont end terrorism. It wont change or bring back all that people have lost over these years. However, people feel like a great justice has been performed because the leader of one of the groups, a man that masterminded many attacks before and after 9/11 and manipulated people into doing what he wanted, is now gone. Will there be another man? Highly possible and probable, but that man will have huge shoes to fill, and it will take a decent amount of effort to gain momentum.

To quote Chimera, "We once fought the steel of German guns yet now we face the sandals of the Middle East". Or something like that, can't remember the exact quote but it was great.

Topic is locked, because it's not going anywhere good. And yes, I will be handing out infractions later. I didn't last night because I was in a foul mood. Now, I simply need time to decide whether or not to show anything remotely resembling mercy and not give out max points, because otherwise I suspect the forums will be very quiet for the next few days.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."

Killing of innocents is wrong but our ideology is different from theirs they feel justified in what they do and no I'm not being unpatriotic I love America but I will take the Sophist standpoint I remember reading the Afghanistan and Iraq reports on Wikileaks and we Americans ourselves spilled more blood of innumerable innocents than actual insurgents and al Qaeda fightersLast edited by Jill4EverSTARS; 05-03-2011, 01:49 PM.

Think of it. If a leader in our country were killed by another government in the manner in which Osama bin Laden was killed, as "justice" for his acts of aggression in the War on Terror -- and people from that other country were shown proudly chanting the country's name, singing their national anthem, and demonstrating in the streets -- Americans would likely feel more sickened than joyful, don't you think? The impulse to celebrate a death depends on what side you're on.
This is just a really poor example by the author. Bin Laden wasn't a government leader, he was a radical terrorist who preached murder and hatred. It's not a valid comparison whatsoever. The so-called 'war on terrorism' has left many innocents dead, but that's war. Terrorism is not war. I'm not dismissing the lives lost at war, but comparing that to victims of terrorism is not the same.
We will only have peace when we stop the cycle of jubilation over acts of violence.

This thread is so full of ... ah... forget it.
Unknown reasons such as not really knowing that the problems exist or the level of seriousness perhaps, unless you are on a grand conspiracy scheme concerning media?
Mass media is able to fool everyone and i think mass media fool everyone. I suspect mass media fool everyone even with Libya's situation. Nobody here is interested in this situation enough to find a way to contact demonstrators(not with leaders!) or talk with Libya's people. Maybe nobody wants to give any oil to anyone.Last edited by ANDYARKLAY; 05-03-2011, 01:12 PM.
