In fairness, you can have awesome characters and horror. Alice fails at this because her powers far outstrip humans, but humans can fight the same monsters she fights - ergo those monsters have as much chance as alcohol vs fire.

If the enemies are balanced to fight the character, then it'll work. It can even make it more horrifying - for all his super duper genetically enhanced powers of awesome, he's still having his balls handed to him. Done well, anyway.

Of course, I very much doubt it'll be anything other than DMC in an RE game...

That would be fine if it was suggested that Alice never had a conflict despite having powers. In all movies where she had powers there were instances of vulnerability. Be it her first encounter against Nemesis, red neck rapists, her fight against the Issacs Tyrant or even losing her army and powers to Wesker.

Regardless we're just talking about a balance which results in one power dominating the other in an action sequence. If Muller's the kind of guy that says "B.O.W.s those are extra." I'm not holding out that his sections will be horrific. Action for sure. Even action has its chase sequences.

Misunderstood the point regarding the difference between rail shooters and survival horror and what both hop to achieve.

UC got away with playing Wesker because horror was not a focal point for that game. It was all about rail shooting.

And yes, I do not believe that playing a super powered protagonist is what the games needed no regardless of length. It didn't do the movies any favors except raise the action further. Which I expect to be the case for RE6.

And I didn't mention UC once. I said the series in general has always been about shooting things.

Muller's scenario has more of a focus on running away than fighting, although the latter is present for certain segments. Guess how many fans of the series, old and new, wanted to play as a superhuman Wesker? Lots.

Manuella was neither playable nor a main protagonist. And even if she was (like Wesker in Umbrella Chronicles being playable) the game she was in was a rail shooter and not a survival horror title. A difference in game play where one's obstacle is to presumably shoot everything in your line of sight and the other is meant to bring about fear. And you can hardly bring about fear as a super enhanced character. That's worse than human characters who just happen to get more action oriented with each game. When you're "enhanced" with powers the game play design encourages you to use them.

Okay, so your only complaint is playing as a superhuman for limited times in one scenario of a three scenario game?

Not sure about you but the entire series has always been focused on shooting things. More experienced players are able to dodge, but generally, there is a heavy emphasis on gunning down monsters.

Actually I'm looking at it with a nice smirk. Knowing how we shouldn't be playing Mary Sue characters yet Wesker's son is the exception....

Is Wesker a Mary Sue? Or Manuela Hidalgo? Or Alexia Ashford? Muller has much more in common with them. He's a human with enhanced abilities. That's all there is to it. And from the looks of things, his superhuman abilities are temporary and he needs repeated injections to regain them. He's not a psychic with no personality and flawless abilities that overcomes any and all situations with ease.

I think this style of game could work with Claire (simply because she isn't some uber-soldier-secret-agent like the others), but as for the other three, I agree. What if there was a biohazard outbreak in a Tall Oaks-style town, say, on the east coast of the US, and Claire and her TerraSave buddies are sent in to provide aid and relief? But she gets trapped in the quarantine zone and has to figure out how to escape a town full of BOWs alone (no co-op, since it detracts from the horror atmosphere). No BS objective markers, checkpoints, or ridiculous melee moves - just good old-fashioned survival horror. Since Claire only used weapons in RE2, CVX, and Degeneration because she had no other choice (not being a trained soldier), I think this kind of game could work without destroying her character.

Let's not forget that she's been touched by the same God of War that the others had, what with that stupidly out-of-place ballerina kick/gun firing combo she pulled in Degeneration.

Which is hilarious, considering a shard of glass the size of my fingernail completely throws her out of commission in favor of Superminator Leon.

So if we want to make these games more scary it does help to bring in a new threat that the protagonists are completely unprepared for. To the point where the object is to escape with their lives being the main priority. For that, I can't see a way to make this happen without sacrificing Leon, Chris, Jill and to a degree Claire.

I want an RE3 Remaster or remake with her , but not now , until the series is focusing on "Horror" again ...
I want another DLC For RE5 lol , they leaved more Story DLC Slots .... was revelations supposed to be one of them ?

With the way the RE universe has grown, wherever a bioterror threat pops up the local BSAA crew will be sent in to save the day. You see the RE6 and Damnation trailers, got tanks and stuff now. I don't see how meant to play as as some 'normal' person anymore because the local BSAA should just have your ass out of there in 5 minutes. The only way it should work anymore if if you play someone seeking a way through or even to the monsters, as the last several games have done.

The BSAA itself doesn't have tanks, those two settings are in war-zones. Tanks are just lying around. And bioterrorism isn't as easy as sending in one BSAA team to clean-up. That's underestimating the general issue.

Another Raccoon City/Sheena Island/Terragrigia/Tall Oaks will always be perfect material for a 'normal' person. B.O.W.s and bioterrorism in general by their very nature are highly volatile and not easily handled.
