        • Not really a 'spoiler' but here it goes:

I've found out some background information on Uroburos and it's mythology that is quite interesting, and might give us a clue as to what role it will play in Resident Evil 5.

The Ouroboros (spelled in RE5 as Uroburos) often represents self-reflexivity or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something constantly re-creating itself, the eternal return, and other things perceived as cycles that begin anew as soon as they end. It can also represent the idea of primordial unity related to something existing in or persisting from the beginning with such force or qualities it cannot be extinguished.

In psychology the term is also used to represent a pre-ego, or "dawn state".

Plato described Uroburos as a self-eating, circular being as the first living thing in the universe—an immortal, perfectly constructed animal.

Certainly interesting how similar the mythology of Uroburos seems to match, eh?

          • That's some really interesting information on Uroboros there, Vogue_Dirge. Thanks for sharing. I'm intrigued to see how that would work into the game.

            • To be fair, a lot of people knew what Ouroboros was before RE5, and I don't think there's any coincidence that the 'doomsday project' in RE5 is named what it is. Nevertheless, thanks for posting that, because a lot of people apparently didn't know about Ouroboros before RE5.

She could still die, considering theres going to be a "reboot" of the franchise and that we dont know if that includes story or just gameplay...this game could be the end of the storylines of all the characters we know. Jill dying could really add alot to the storyline, if done right. At least shes seemingly an integral part of this game.

                    • I think people are looking too deep into these "reboot" comments. We're not going to see a complete abandonment of the character we've seen to this point. RE5 is just likely going to close the lengthy chapter that was the Raccoon City/Umbrella incident. It's clear to me that 5 will be the last mention of Umbrella and all the major events that stemmed from Raccoon City. I'm betting on Excella, Tri-Cell and Kijuju becoming the new Wesker, Umbrella and Raccoon City in terms of their roles (main antagonist, evil corporation, and starting place of the events that are to unfold in the future).

Basically, I think gameplay is the reboot they speak of and not the storyline so much. It seems quite far-fetched to expect them to drop Leon, Chris, Ada, etc. from future titles. Hell, even Takeuchi just said in a brand new interview that he'd like to see Barry of all people in a future title. If he can see Barry in the fanchise's future then I'm sure the lead characters will remain a part of the series.

That said I do hope Degeneration officially retired Claire from the series and that Jill dies in RE5. Not because I dislike them, but because the series is starting to create a monstrous cast rather than focusing on and developing deep stories for a select few. Frankly, by the end of RE5, I'd like Jill to be off'ed, Claire to leave the fighting to Chris and Leon, and at least one other character to be revealed as dead (even if that means Chris or Sheva being killed in the last cinematic of the game).

                      • ^^^ Well I don't think Chris or Sheva or Claire die, they've all been featured in the viral vids, and even the actress for Sheva says she would like to see her play a role in future games.

I tend to think that article about co-op being a natural evolution is where the series is truly headed. Who knows what RE6 will be like. Maybe another co-op or better yet, a mission so HUGE several BSAA members are needed to fight, which will lead to multi-player. That is where the money in games lies right now. May as well cash in on it.

Could be very fun getting to see several characters we've never seen intereact with each other doing so.

                        • I agree with that they might want to trim off some of the characters now, but I actually think the first they should off is Barry. He's been doing nothing since RE3. He's helped Chris/Jill because he was feeling guilty to them for betraying them during RE1, but now that Umbrella is dead, he have nothing to do now. On the other hand, I hope they'll at least squeeze in a role for Barry, maybe a cameo appearance as a BSAA weapon specialist or something.

Personally, I'll prefer them to kills off Claire as she is not as popular as Jill, but I guess that since Jill have already made so many appearances, maybe they want to pass the 'iconic RE heroine' status to Claire now as Jill's getting old (timeline-wise).

And kills off Steve. I have no idea why do they continue to leave this plot string hanging when its going no where. Sherry can be a boss fight in the last RE game.

I don't see Excella being a good replacement for Wesker. For the non-protagonist side, we have only Ada Wong. An interaction for their side (Excella and Ada) wouldn't work well as they are of the same genders. Wesker should survive, but tone him down while elevate Excella and Ada to the same importance level to the series. A mixed working relationship of Wesker/Ada/Excella will be interesting.

                          • Jill getting old? Lara Croft is 50 years old and she looks fantastic! It's ridiculous for them to say that Jill might get old so they pass the iconic RE status to Claire who is LESS yes THAT LESS popular than Jill Valentine. I think Capcom just wanted to catch our attention... I may be wrong though.

                              • It is in the world of Resident Evil. Once you reach 30, you might as well be 50. Chris and Wesker seem to be the exceptions to that rule, but Wesker has the added benefit of his miracle virus.
