If you ask me, Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape answer two of the most common flavors of bitching from "fans" and are hardly what I would call a waste of $5. There's a good few hours worth of good fun to be had, clearing it out on all difficulties and stuff, and the leaderboards adds to the challenge (if that's your thing).


Lost in Nightmares - Goes back to the roots. Fewer enemies. Focus on atmosphere. Upping the risks a bit when there are things going on (+Barry <3)

Desperate Escape - Want ammo? Then learn to hit things so you don't waste your ammo! Enemies too slow for you? Okay! Have lots of them! Let's see if they're too slow for you now! (+Rebecca <3)


And, yeah, Desperate Escape is absolutely brutal on Professional. Me and James were in the middle of a run where I unfortunately had to bail.


Also, for anyone trying to do the agitator achievements;

There's one agitator on each map of the level. They pretty much spawn when you've cleared specific areas. To clear an area doesn't just mean making sure there are no more enemies, but making sure no more enemies will spawn when you do stuff. Enemies spawn when you do specific things, such as assist jumps, opening doors, climbing ladders, etc. Anything that equals progress means enemies are likely to spawn somehow. When done right; a tiny cutscene showing the agitator appear will be triggered.

The locations of the agitators are;

In the first area. Clear out all the enemies before the you do the first assist jump. After doing the assist jump, the agitator cutscene should trigger and he should be available for murder if you head back to the first area (as seen in the cutscene).

In the second area. Not sure if you have to kill EVERYTHING in this area, or if it's just the ending piece you need. Enemy spawn rules are the same here as before. Enemies spawn whenever you make progress here + at each assist action point. The agitator spawns on top of the final gate that you need to blow up. So kill everything up to the point where you've destroyed all gates, then clean out the area in front of the elevator (since the bridge is out). Then man the grenade launcher positions and start clearing out all remaining enemies (there are some up on top of the gate you passed through, where the agitator will evt. spawn too.) Sooner or later the 2nd agitator should spawn.

Just kill everything. Every now and then the elevator will bring you more enemies. When you've killed enough boss monsters and enemies, the elevator will evt. bring you an agitator.

By the way, getting an S rank seems fairly easy. I had a B and a C in my mix (and the rest S) when I scored an S Rank on Normal. So it seems like you get more than enough points/kills/whatever to even out even the score. Even if you have a death thrown in, redone one area, spent time searching every crook and corner and so on.

I think I can sum up my thoughts on DE with only a few words--heaping pile of steaming shit. Pure Grade A.

Terrible. Just terrible. JB's pretty much laid it all out. Why repeat? A waste of 5 bucks to say the least. The worst part of DE for me though? That Jill Valentine was involved as a character in it. What a fucking waste.

Just finished a playthrough on Veteran with valentinesdead, and have to say I am very disappointed with DE.

I was really looking forward to this episode, envisioning it in my mind to be similar to a lengthy Mercs playthrough. Instead, it turned out to be a frustrating, monotonous chore to get through.

It started well enough, but what was Capcom thinking with the rocket stations? Honestly, could the Majini...the same ones dumb enough to run at you while you're holding an automatic weapon, be so intelligent and gifted that they're expert marksman with the rockets? I mean, you're trying to get your bearings, and fight off the countless Majini that seem to be raining from the sky - almost literally, as they apear all around you at points - and there's these rockets flying at you at a ridiculous frequency. Hell, I wanted to enjoy the music of DE, but there were so many explosions that I couldn't hear it as much as I liked. The rockets are cheap, as are the crossbow majini that also display pinpoint accuracy. I was looking forward to the thrill of overwhelming odds, but it's difficult when the map is so damn dark in places and you're trying to figure out where to go while constantly running to avoid the rockets.

It appears Canas had no problem, so maybe I'm just a terrible player? Either way, the enemies were getting some really, really cheap hits in. Especially the rocket bastards. Again...what was Capcom thinking? The rockets, along with the numerous enemies (the latter sounds like a recipe for success, and is something I have always believed the RE5 main campaign needed) really showcased how poor this control scheme is; trying to maneuver and position yourself in the right spot for a few brief seconds to aim was a bitch. Maybe if we'd found the sniper rifle earlier in our session, but the first thing we found was the shotgun.

The final complaint I have is Doug. God, he is possibly the most annoying character in the history of RE (dare I say even more so than RE4 Leon). Seriously, his voice was like nails on a chalkboard. Hearing it periodically agitated me even more than the cheap enemies. I couldn't wait for the helo to arrive just because I knew he was going to die (though I was hoping to be able to kill him myself), as all helicopter pilots do in this series. Fuck you, Doug. Burn in Hell you toothless Jill fanboy.

I don't mean to complain so much about DE. I really wanted to like it. I actually was expecting this episode to hold lots of replay value, but it really wasn't fun at all. The maps were lackluster, and those goddamn cheap rockets just soiled the experience.

Speaking of Mercs, Mercs Reunion is fun as ever. Only played with Josh (elbow drop and suplex FTW) and Rebecca (she sucks so, so much save for the flamespray move) tonight, and will give Business Sheva/Metal Chris a spin tomorrow after classes.

Anyone know how many shootable score stars there are? I remember LIN had 18, but I've only found two in DE thus far...

I found 4 or 5, like Carnivol, and the end result gave me an "S" rank for that, so I'd imagine that might be all of them, if not close.

Intro gradually dislodges itself (by the time Josh shows up, it's pretty easy to spot that it's off-sync)

The ending cutscene is off-sync from the start.

The mid-section appears to be fine.

By the way am I the only one that experiences heavy audio de-sync in the intro and ending cutscene? Like, the audio plays waaaaaay too early for the animation. We're talking like a third of a second too early. (The mid-section cutscene, however, seems to be fine.)

I managed to beat Veteran, but upon attempting Professional, I just gave up. I was playing co-op with a friend, and we were taking it very slow, but goodness... What a pain in the ass. To me, it makes Pro on the main scenario look like a breeze.

Veteran, though, towards the end (when you're fighting on the helipad, waiting for Doug) was so incredibly intense. Two Red Executioners come up the elevator (separately, thank fuck), and it was just insane.

Need to attempt Pro again for the achievement, but I don't think I have it in me today.

I did my first run on Veteran. Took me 52 minutes with my friend, was really intense like you said. I'd say we were in orange health about 80% of the time.

And yeah, that last rooftop battle was crazy. We had a red Chaingun Majini after us with 30 seconds to go, and we were both in orange health. I got hit and went into dying, and he helped me, he got hit too, I helped him, and just then time ran out and we made it. It was so awesome.

As for being better than Lost in Nightmares, I dunno. I like them both.
