    To steal from KylieDog:

    MY Personal opinion

    RE1 Original - DS (Extra modes/puzzles/battles)
REmake - Wii Version as mentioned no disc change
RE0 - Wii Version as mentioned no disc change
RE2 - PC (Arrange mode, gallery modes, Extreme Battle, Modding options; limitless potential)
RE3 - GCN (Only downside is tiny little D-Pad on controller I hate analog)
CVX - GCN (Looks better than PS2 version, contains the extras)
RE4 - Wii (GC looks but PS2 extra content combined and motion controls are decent)
    RE5 - Argueably PS3 what with the motion control options . . .

Bear in mind that the PC versions of all games except CV which didn't get to the PC have the potential to be the so called Best version as with tweaking some minor some major they can all be improved in some way to exceed the other versions . . .

I prefer the Wii Bio4, DC Bio2, PC SourceNext Bio3, and Wii Bio/Bio0.

The Cube version of RE2 does have the best in-game character models but the GCN's low res backgrounds look blurry compared to other versions. IMO the DC version has the best of both worlds in that department.

@TheSelfishGene The DC version is basically a port of the PC version.

The Wii ports of RE and RE0 are both superior as they do not require you to change discs. Also, the FMVs do not have the horrible compression artifacts of the GameCube versions as they used much more space for them (and switched formats from HVQM4 to THP).

There is no definitive version of RE2: PC DVD has 640x480 FMV encodes, the bonus games and the gallery. PlayStation Dual Shock Version has sequenced and thus uncompressed music. GameCube has the best in-game graphics. Nintendo 64 has exclusive features (randomizer, Ex Files, blood color, superior control system, new costumes).

RE3 does not have a perfect version either. PC DVD has the best FMV encodes and has the most costumes, GameCube has the best in-game graphics.

C:VX is best on GameCube: It has the highest quality movie encodes and it doesn't have the graphical shortcomings of the PlayStation 2 port.

There are more differences, but I think these are the most important changes between versions.

+1 for RE2 on Dreamcast. I don't care for the 'hi-res' and graphical changes, but I love the nightmare difficulty. It's still challenging for someone like me who's played the original release to death.

But I think this is also available on the PC version?? (I just don't have it).

You're lke the second person I've seen say that. Does anyone else agree?
The main game's cutscenes are done in realtime but in Separate Ways the cutscenes are like on the PS2 (not running in real-time). So you'll notice a dip in quality.

BTW, the extra content from the PS2 version runs with GameCube assets on Wii version. Not at 100% but a lot of it does. And said mini-game now has the cool water and lighting effects that were in the main game of the GCN ver.

Here's a quick comparison from way back:

    Geometry loss and gain:

    Polygon/texture difference

    Enemies are not as blocky:

Still even if they used some of the GC assets, the mini-game doesn't looks as good as the main game. The quality of the workmanship is not as polished.

    Personal opinion

    RE1 Original - DS (Extra modes/puzzles/battles)
    REmake - No superior version.
    RE0 - No superior version.
RE2 - Dreamcast (Nightmare mode, gallery modes, 60Hz mode)
RE3 - Dreamcast (2 extra costumes...and that is only reason I say this version, otherwise GC)
CVX - Gamecube (Looks better than PS2 version, contains the extras)
RE4 - Wii (GC looks but PS2 extra content combined)
    RE5 - No ports.

Like the GC version, the Wii version does cutscenes realtime (only the ones in the cutscene gallery uses videos in the Wii version, iirc)

All the great graphics (including the particle/lighting effects & polygons missing from the PS2/PC versions) and the uncompressed audio from the original GameCube version plus all the extra content from the PS2 version (Separate Ways, new costumes, weapons). Not to mention the motion controls which actually are very good. To the point I rarely go back to playing with the GCN controls (RE4 Wii Edition allows you to play using said control pad).

Is there a dip in texture quality when it moves to the extra content from the ps2 / pc side or does it look like it's been made from assets with equal quality to the gamecube version?

PS1 RE1 is the only one to have Director's Cut and Dual Shock too, but NDS is the only one that has fancy new models, ass grabbing, and moar.

Just like the N64 has the only RE2 port with proper analog support, EX files and various jadda jadda. While the SourceNext PC release is the only with DVD quality FMVs.

I guess as far as Resident Evil 4 goes, running the Wii Version in Dolphin might be the absolute best choice, but Resident Evil 5 lacks DLC on the PC version, the 360 version probably wont have motion controls and the PS3 version is generally considered the inferior (if you enjoy running around with a looking glass, spotting differences, or for some reason wants to play insane amounts of split-screen mercs)

So, yeah, it's all pretty subjective. Grab multiple versions, play them based on your mood.

I've got pretty much all RE's (bar 5) on PC.

Again mainly for the ability to customise the game, even if its only minor with a new costume but it just adds that little bit of variety to games that I've hammered to death with replays.

Depending on what your definition of Best is really determines what you want. As in extras, graphics, stability or customisation.

For example RE1 PC is probably the better graphically but because of its poor forsight, the newer clock speeds on processors make this game run too fast and
crash. The PSX under emulation can beat this graphically. The saturn has the extra battle mode but the worst graphics.

    Its all pretty much subjective.

I run a laptop personally, the mods run smoothly - I've really only seen people with computers that are somewhat considered "ancient". I've got an old laptop with barely any ram that can still run the majority of the mods without any issues.

As for RE4/5 it would be more than likely the preferable one for new people interested in modifying RE4 or RE5 to make it a bit more custom, personal and perhaps even more of a challenge.

The only thing is, that common sense would be nice on there - to read before you ask otherwise you will, of course get sarcastic comments which is to be a tad expected. Of course, feel free to ask anything if you can't find it in the notes over there.

Anyway, I'm agreeing with Rancid on this one - I'm more partial to the PC versions for the very reason that they can be modified for the most part.
