Um...If you're a fan of the expanded universe from the books, then why are you debating who the original creator of the films is?

You sound more like you're defending everyone after Alien and Aliens, than anything. Kind of confused here.

While I get that you're trying to say that others can add to the cannon...just no.
I really hate both those films, is the expanded universe (mostly the books) I am a fan of.

Sorry but no, if Cameron who only added to the universe after Sctott's movie can count as an original creator then every writer of every movie would count also, including Anderson. There is no difference except when their respective movies released.

As I said before this is people just siding with the movies they like, no consistant argument behind it.

Anyway, after reading things here and there, it seems it is indeed a direct prequel, so what I thought about previously might be wrong. I still wonder why the planet is LV-223 and not LV-426.

Pretty clearly a few people got a case of "I liked this movie, so that director gets to say what is canon".

Of course, just like the Star Wars expanded universe half destroyed by the 3 last movies? Anyway, if you consider canon something made out of financial interest by random people/companies, up to you.

I'll stick with Scott and Cameron.

It really isn't, and you'll find many of the public do care about the expanded universe.

What FOX considers canon or not doesn't matter, and the public doesn't care. Ultimately it's what people like Scott or Cameron say that matters. FOX just want to make shittons of money, even by producing awful movies like Avp. Scott and Cameron on the contrary have some integrity when it comes to such popular franchises, and seem to care about what they are doing.

It's like saying Dragon Ball GT is canon even though it wasn't made by Akira Toriyama. It's not canon. And Toriyama himself dismissed it afterwards by producing short stories/video games with different events.

There's nothing to really debate about, it all comes to what people want to believe in.

Re: owner or creator, I can tell you in the case of Alien seems to be Fox who decide. And seem to just roll with it as it comes along. As I posted a few pages back they have decided that the upcoming Colonial Marines game sits in established canon. That's a decision made without Messrs Cameron or Scott.

I know people from AVPGalaxy are seeing it tomorrow so the spoiler floodgates will open then. This will be your last warning to stay the hell away from anything Prometheus related on the net if you don't wanna be spoiled.

    Spoilers folks spoilers.

There has been no announcement, and I don't think it would be that obvious anyway so I would say no.
