Don't act like this is a new thing, though. Its freakin human nature.

That's why cavemen had to wait until some guy brought fire to them from the gods before they even got around using the stuff.

And its because of this damn reason (human are lazy bastards) that we need to make it easy for them to get to the truth.

Or... we can all go into Illuminati mode and keep all this to the lucky few who are 'worthy' and who make the effort to dig out the truth.

And if that's what News Bot wants, then he shouldn't even bother trying to correct Capcom's hack-jobs. Because most people won't make that effort. Not if they're not even aware they have to make one to begin with.

As far as I know, Capcom doesn't give a damn anyways. Just keep buying those games.

        I guess so.

Maybe all those translation errors made by Capcom weren't errors at all...

The truth is waaaaay out there.

          • In the English version of BH4, there is a line in the "Capture Luis Sera" file which says that the sample the game focuses on is the "lifeblood" of the cult. This would be fine if it made any sense at all, and as it turns out, it doesn't, because it's another mistranslation.

The sample (a dominant species Plaga) is referred to as "教団の命." This basically means "life of the order" at first glance, but "命" actually has other meanings relating to dominance. It means "words of a ruler", "decree", "lord", "prince", and so on. It's difficult to translate well, but a close translation would be "decreer", something which gives decrees or commands, which is precisely what the dominant species Plaga is.

This same file also determines why the "sample" was so important. The cult did not want it to fall into anyone else's hands, as it would allow them to control the subordinate species and undo all of their plans.

The file is also written by Ramon Salazar. This little fact is missing completely in English for, well, no reason.

That is certainly nice to know. Strange (but not shocking) that it was omitted from the English.

              • This news bit came out a few days ago but its an update of what Capcom is doing on the translation front:

Capcom plans to localize games into 13-15 languages next year

Localizing games "is a must" if Capcom hopes to successfully break into regions like Eastern Europe, South Africa, India and the Middle East, according to Capcom executive Katsuhiko Ichii.

Speaking in an internal company interview, Ichii, who is the director and executive corporate officer at Capcom, said the company has a history of emphasizing the importance of the North American and European markets, but now it wants to be an active player in the world market.

"The key is to develop game titles fully adapted to the unique elements of their respective target markets, rather than endure the painful experience of setting a single standard for the global deployment of one title," he said in the interview. "When it comes to the actual development of a game, we need to accurately recognize and incorporate the tastes of gamers in each region."

Ichii cites examples like the Ace Attorney and Sengoku Basara series, which have been immensely popular in Japan but the same success has not translated into other regions. On the other hand, series like Resident Evil and Street Fighter have found success both in Japan and abroad. Ichii believes that Capcom games can succeed in multiple markets — it's a matter of finding a way to break into these regions and localizing the games.

"We've seen a great deal of expansion of markets in emerging countries and regions, such as Russia, Eastern Europe, South Africa, India and the Middle East," he said. "When you combine the size of these new markets, they're about as large as the markets in major developed nations such as Germany and France."

Ichii says that to successfully break into these regions, "localization is a must", which is why as of next year Capcom will begin doing voiceovers for their games in the languages of five to seven countries. At the moment, voiceovers are only done in English. Capcom also plans to have in-game text translated into 13-15 languages.

"This will give us a major boost in the area of game localization," Ichii said.

                • All of that means fuck all if they aren't actually going to put effort and attention into them. They think that it'll be great so long as the games are available in those languages, but they don't care for the actual quality of the translation. They lack something Square and Konami nailed down in the 90s.

                  • Rather minor update. From the BIOHAZARD REVELATIONS Navigation & Art Book. Only real new information in the whole book.

                    JACK NORMAN

The man said to be the mastermind of the 2004 "Terragrigia Panic" who is the leader of the international terrorist organization "Veltro." Although it's said that he governs the armed cult group with overwhelming charisma, his personality is wrapped in mystery. After controlling the situation of the "Terragrigia Panic", the "FBC" continued a clean-up of "Veltro." After a number of months, it was announced that they had annihilated "Veltro" through secret operations. At the time, they declared confirmation of Norman's death.

                    GLOBSTER

Mysterious lumps of flesh (blobs) washed ashore in large quantities at the coasts of the Mediterranean Sea. Globster is the abbreviation of Grotesque Blob Monster, the general/popular name of this unidentified driftage documented around the world. In other words, we don't know anything accurate regarding this Globster. If this is the result of virus contamination, what on earth was its real identity...?

                    FENRIR

A wolf-type B.O.W. developed with deployment among mountains in mind. It projects its wild nature and combat power, but its control characteristic is inferior compared with the Doberman pinscher-based "Cerberus." As the social characteristic of the wolf strongly remain in Fenrir, it hunts in packs. They do not attack prey at once. They observe prey at a distance, surround it in a group and gradually torture it to death after cutting off retreat. The echoed howling of Fenrir among the mountains is the signal which conveys the beginning of a hunt.

                    HUNTER

A combat model B.O.W. with long, sharp claws and its entire body covered in scale-like skin. It was created by crossbreeding DNA, including reptiles, on a fertilized human egg base through the power of the t-Virus. Its appearance looks like the middle of human and reptile and it gives off an eeriness. It possesses tremendous agility and jumping power and corners targets definitively and cuts them down, suitable for the name of Hunter. It was also successfully mass-produced and various variation types were developed.

                    FARFARELLO

The name Farfarello (slanderer) originates from one of the twelve demons called the Malebranche (evil claws) which appear in the "Divine Comedy" written by Dante Alighieri. Farfarello is an improved model which further added t-Abyss to the Hunter. As a result, it has a mimicry capability which some aquatic organisms have that enables it to melt into its surroundings and become transparent. However, as a result of being injected with more than one virus, its aggressiveness increased and its control characteristic is reported to have more remarkably deteriorated than ever before.

                    • Not a major update, but after showing mistranslations to CAPCOM Japan, we got this response.

This translation is groundless. I can't understand why such mistakes were permitted. They probably depended on "a translator proficient in English" without experience playing BIOHAZARD. I am ashamed of the lack of understanding of the Japanese staff. The producers must not permit such translations.
Delightful crow for some people to feast on.

From what medium were these mistranslations: the latest RE games or some of the older ones?

I would like to know this, as well. Their statement is just so strong and harsh. Not that the translators don't deserve it, because they clearly do, but I wasn't expecting the honesty. I figured they'd give a vague excuse of: "We understand your frustrations as a fan; however, localization for any product often risks these problems, etc., etc." Ha, but I'm so glad they didn't.

                            • Every single publicly available BH1.5 subtitle has here been deciphered and translated:

This is only a first draft, and I know that the order is currently completely arbitrary; I'll design a more elegant presentation later. Any feedback from you guys would be swell!
