Modding nowadays will take a considerable chunk of your free time and its pretty damn hard. If you really want to get into modding, you should find out what is it that you like to do and then try out a few things on your own. Once your skill level is good enough, try joining a mod team that needs help and from there, you could join a more reputable mod team.

That also crossed my mind while I was writing that post...
Considering MW1's popularity, I weighed it out against other popular titles. Although, I do believe it could have had a slight effect on them. Perhaps not very big, but just a little.
Mod tools, eh? I don't know if I should get the PC version, actually...
All my friends play on Xbox, although I'm big on mods and modding (I'd like to know how to, and it can't be that hard, but I have no experience whatsoever)...
I think I'll just stick to a console version...

Competition wouldnt really affect sales that much. Modern Warfare was a huge success, in almost every possibly imaginable way. It delivered a great SP experience (not my cup of tea, but most liked it, so), the best multiplayer experience in 3-4 years, with long legs and it had an amazing competitive base.
Modern Warfare 2, as seen to be intended to capitalize on every strongpoint that made COD4 what it was, can only be a megahit. And probably rightfully so.
However, I will flip Activision two long fingers if they wont release any mod tools. There are no good mods out for COD4 and maps are terribad, made with COD2 mapping tools...

One of the reasons they even have a shot at best selling game ever is because most of the other major holiday games were delayed like BioShock 2.
That would make up for some serious competition, and I'm sure Activision is happy about that.

I'm actually not distraught at all over the announcement of no public beta (for now).
It really isn't necessary for them and it'd cost much more money to host servers for a public beta that would get flooded in a matter of hours.
A closed beta seems fine; you at least have professionals on it who actually play the beta for what's main purpose is, and that's to find any bugs or glitches to patch up before its final release.

Why would you need a public beta test? It looks to me like people are getting their demos and betas mixed up. IW is one of those companies that can get their games to work without a beta.
A multiplayer demo with one map would do the trick just fine.

It better not be. Nazi Zombies was the best thing about World at War.
Infinity Ward will feel the wrath of my slightly bent golden bat (see avatar).
