It's meant to foreshadow the circuit breaker puzzle in the basement power room. It's worth noting that the evidence room originally had an auto-door with an electronic key card lock. It was changed to a regular key lock in the final version, so the need for the flavor text about the circuit breaker probably became unnecessary.

i wonder why it's rarely mentioned, at the time it was one of the first differences that i noted.

Interesting videos. Although I don't think they're from beta 1, the two main things that give it away are the lack of the decapitated head in the licker scnene and the use of white Sherry over blue Sherry. But there are some things that suggest it's from the same era of development, such as the use of ROJI BAK, and the fact that Leon always seems to be on the A scenario and Claire always seems to be on the B scenario. You know, I don't think this is beta 1 but perhaps another beta which we've never classified before, I think a lot of the images that have been posted over the past couple of pages are possibly from the same build, a one that is further in development than the actual beta 1.

Chris did have some muscle on him you know, not just in RE5. =P

If Capcom ever gets around to remaking RE2, it would be cool if 1.5 became a hidden unlockable feature (after completing all four scenarios on the hardest difficulty level or something). Knowing Capcom though, it's more likely that it would be a $60 piece of DLC.

If the "team" ever gets around to releasing their modification of 1.5, and it becomes a "viral" hit online, maybe Capcom would be slightly more likely to consider it.

I remember playing the demo disc that came with director's cut (I think it was) and thinking ... something's wrong here. All I had seen up to that point was mostly magazine coverage on 1.5 Even while playing the RE2 demo (which only let you play as Leon, so I had no idea that Elza had been turned into Claire), I thought maybe this was just a small sampling of the police department and maybe the rest of it looked different. Maybe I was just naive? Maybe I was in denial. Before playing retail RE2 however, I did my research and learned the (unfortunate?) truth. Though RE2, regardless, is one of my favourite games to this day.

I used to read CVG back in the day, there were two issues with 1.5 and then a few issues later they had RE2 again but this time it was the retail version, which was the first time I found out that things had changed.

Well I mentioned this earlier when I talked about the press release but it wasn't that clearly defined by the media. Capcom didnt help that. Much like imacwesker said its likely Capcom needed enough footage to showcase at the show but it wasn't even until the E3 that the game was officially pushed back (first till the end of 1997 before it moved again to its final release). Because of the media provided by Capcom even at the E3 had shots of Leon's 1.5 game still plus the turn around in print times you would have seen 1.5 articles through to about July or August of 1997.

The funny thing was though some media did get an earlier acknowledgement that the game has been scrapped (mostly translations of a Famitsu interview from earlier in 1997) and was being redeveloped via word coming from Japan. But the materials Capcom kept providing in the US and Europe said otherwise. Like using the original Nov 96 PR material at the E3 slightly modified and screenshots and the video as shown above. You can see why it was not as clear from a media side when you see all this.

Was this what the inventory chest was going to look like or something else?

And is there a video or anything that shows Kendo telling Leon/Claire to shoot him in the head? First I've heard of it, until now.
I was thinking that it's more than likely just a placeholder. Maybe back then when you put both the jewels into the effigies, the chest would open giving you a key or something. That could make sense if the lid was rendered as 3d

Chris is just that awesome. This also must mean he must have had multiple idle poses since I don't remember him doing that with the handgun.

He throws that shotgun around as if it were pretty light, which is kind of humorous.
